1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Lathal grew up in Old Arathi in a village very close to troll territory, so attacks from neighboring forest troll tribes were always imminent. His father was a warrior and was killed during one of these attacks when he was very young, and thus, he only has vague memories of his appearance. His mother took good care of him while protecting the village as a shield maiden. (In Lathal's village, women were taught to fight alongside men. In order to stay alive, they needed every capable fighter they could get.) One year, however, the village was unable to produce enough children, perhaps because of disease, famine or simply bad luck, and the village fell at the time when these children would have come of age to fight. In the midst of death all around her, Lathal's mother fled with him to Dalaran, abandoning her warriors in arms to die, something for which she still feels great guilt. As Lathal grew older, they became very close, more akin to brother and sister than mother and son (Lathal's mother birthed him at the age of sixteen. Because death was so frequent, a woman did not choose to have a child when she wanted, but when duty demanded it.) She taught him much of what he knows about close combat. He died during an accident, however, and his mother followed suit soon after. She followed him into undeath near the days of the Cataclysm, and they are still very close.
