Hello, I’m the one who asked about the whole Corbyn vs Johnson fiasco.
General question, what duties as a household guard (aside from the obvious) would perform if say he was a sworn shield or am I being a dummy? Because are they different jobs or the same job entirely? Thanks.
Well, depending on the fief, someone hired as a household guard would do more than bodyguard the lord or their assigned protectee. They could patrol the lands which might be everything from enforcing a curfew to helping escort the taxes back to the keep. They could also help out with instructing squires and pages and of course, in the event of war, contribute to an attack or defense. If the lord or the marshal needed something, the guard might be able to do it.
Thanks for the question, Sir. Glad you’re finding answers for modern and historical question, alike.
