How the hell did he end up here? That was a question Cooper had been asking himself a lot lately, almost daily. But he had never asked himself that as frequently as he did today. It was supposed to be a fun day, a grand engagement party, but he could do nothing but wish for it to be over. On the one hand, this party had done more bad than good for his relationship in the past months. They had been a happy couple, otherwise he never would have pulled out the ring. But it seemed that, ever since she said yes, it only went downhill from there. They fought more, grew more tense around one another. Cooper figured that would be over once the stress of planning an engagement party and a wedding was over as well. But then... then she introduced him to her sister, who was anything but a stranger to him but a woman he met what felt like forever ago, and had never quite forgotten. As his fiancé went off to greet more guests outside, they were left standing awkwardly in front of each other, all alone. Cooper eventually cleared his throat. “It’s good to finally meet you”, he said, deciding to go with the pretense of not recognizing her, because she probably wouldn’t even remember him after all. “I’m happy you could make it for the party.”
