Sunshine // open
Philip sat in the sand, watching girls in bikini’s wander past, splashing in the waves. Some of them were other Mermaids, some of them were just normal girls. Couple of them might even be Werewolves. Philip smiled to himself, not like he had a type.
Summer was in swing, even though the actual first day of summer was still a week away. It had been absurdly hot for June; Philip spent as much time by and in the water as possible, only leaving to go to work in evening. By then it had cooled down a little, but lord was August gonna be a bitch.
Philip stood up, dusting the sand off of his legs. He tugged at his swim trunks, wishing the city council would take up his anonymous suggestion of making the beach a nude one. It was too hot to be wearing clothes, and they just slowed him down in the water. Some of the other guys wore smaller, tighter fitting swim shorts, but he was quite comfortable with all that.
He moved down to the water to walk on the cooler, harder wet sand. Flip flops in hand, he headed down towards the boardwalk. Maybe he’d get a snow cone or ice-cream or something.
@pduffy: it’s thirsty thursday and we outchea. come thru the eagle and see ya boy!
The waves were crashing pretty hard tonight, even for a bright clear night there were few people on the beach. It was still early, probably like eleven. Ish? Philip floated on his back, looking up at the moon and stars. Nearly full, no wonder the ocean was so rough. Of course that meant the Wolves were feeling the restless. He’d be sure to stick to the shore the next few days.
There weren’t a ton, the pack was probably the same size of the clan. Philip couldn’t name all the names, but living in a small town your whole life you learn a lot of secrets. His grandmother used to go on and on with old stories about werewolves and vampires and Other things. Made sense, they couldn’t be the only otherworldly things out there. He never really bought into though, til freshman year when his best friend came crying to him. Stammered through a tear filled explanation about how he was a werewolf and had changed during the full moon the night before and accidentally killed a person. Young and stupid, Philip agreed with help the kid dispose of the body. He spilled his secret as well, and drug the body far out to sea where the sharks would take care of it.
He shook the memory off. It wasn’t something he was proud of. His friend had long skipped town, being shunned by the pack. He was visited by the Alpha, thanked for keeping their secret, and told to keep his fins out of Wolf business. Scary shit. Grams was pissed. He shook his head, diving around into the next wave and swimming down deep. He reached the ocean floor and started to swim up the shelf towards the shore. The started to become shallow and he surfaced, paddling his way until he could walk.
He found his duffle bag, pulling a pair of swim trunks on. He hated swimming in clothes, but this wasn’t a nude beach and people tended to frown on skinny dipping. Luckily the beach had been empty tonight. He threw himself down in the sand, pulling out a water bottle and a bag of chips, and leaned back on his bag to star gaze as he dried off.
