Now we have confirmation of how skewed the Desmonds are.

Like.....

The juxtaposition between the Desmonds and the Forgers are so clear!!

The rich and "true" family dinner.....

All first class chef's menu. Expensive utensils. Elite foods. Elite wine.

But..... so cold, so stiff, and full with distance.

Meanwhile, the "fake" family dinner:

Home cook, cheap ingridients, normal discounted utensils...

And yet.... full with warmth, full with smiles.

Augh 😭😭😭😭

I feel so so so sooooo sorry for Damian

I know full well how children almost always ask for their parents (mostly their mother's encouragement) to do things.

I know. Cause my son always do the same.

And yet, Melinda let down Damian, because she can't stomach the idea of how Damian (her beloved son) always tried so hard to please his father. While the same man gives her chills and unpleasant feelings??

Melinda didn't even eat.

All the time, she is under Donovan's scrutining eyes.

And just after Donovan suceeded in reminding Melinda about her place, that he found the dinner to be pleasantaries.

And only then, Donovan smiled to Damian.

Augh....

What is Endo planning???

I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen more theories about Jeeves and Damian’s (potentially biological) relationship. They look like they could be brothers, just as much as he and Demetrius:

Damian obviously takes after his mother, but Jeeves has many of the same traits as well - dark hair, thinner eyes, bigger irises. He’s also quite parental with Damian (in a different, more brotherly or intimate way than what we see with Martha and Becky) and unusually close to Melinda.

My current theory is that he’s either Melinda’s brother or he’s Damian’s actual father. The latter of which being a world-shattering revelation for this story. Not 100% sure which I like more, through I’m probably leaning towards uncle. Desmond being Damian’s father certainly fits with the “family is what you create and love, regardless of parentage” theme. Jeeves being his uncle creates a Yor/Yuri parallel, implies Melinda is from a lower social status, and gives Desmond leverage over her. However, Jeeves being his father opens up the “fake families” and “everyone has secrets” theme more while presenting a major obstacle for the mission. Operation Strix being built entirely on a lie would be a spicy plotline

Bonus: Jeeves smiling at Damian just like Loid does when they both are trying to assure him that Desmond loves him

I definitely feel this chapter is kind of build up for if Damian does end up eating dinner with the Forgers, he’d contrast it with his own family and solidify how he wishes for a more comforting home to go to. I feel he’d become less satisfied with the little attention his father already gives him

Le dîner est malaisant mais je pense que c'est fait exprès pour montrer le contraste avec les repas de la famille Forger. Chez les Forger, leurs repas sont chaleureux, ils se parlent entre eux mais chez les Desmond, personne n'ose parler montrant la distance entre chaque membre de la famille. Je crois qu'il y a que Demetrius qui semble être à l'aise vu qu'il mange sereinement. Et quand Donovan dit que ce dîner est fort intéressant, ça ne fait que renforcer ses idées comme quoi les personnes ne peuvent être proches.

The dinner is uneasy, but I think it's done on purpose to show the contrast with the Forger family's meals. With the Forgers, their meals are warm, they talk to each other, but with the Desmonds, no one dares to speak, showing the distance between each member of the family. I think it's only Demetrius who seems at ease, since he's eating serenely. And when Donovan says that this dinner is very interesting, it only reinforces his belief that people can't be close to each other.
