Chaerin had been skeptical about going back into acting. Even if it was just for a snack commercial, it felt strange after so long. Acting reminded her of a different time in her life, when things seemed simpler and she didn’t have so many worries and insecurities. But her managers argued it would be good for her, a good way for her to stand out even amongst the other StarbrighT members, and she found she didn’t have any good reasons to say no.

Now she’s here on set, nervously greeting the staff members as she’s led back to where the other actors are waiting. Her manager leaves as soon as she’s settled, mumbling something about coffee as he turns away. Chaerin decides the best thing she can do now is get to know the other actors.

She’s surprised to find a familiar face amongst the few people gathered in the small area. It’s RaSe’s Choi Ilhoon, standing only a few feet away. He doesn’t seem to have noticed her yet—Chaerin doubts he knows who she is, but when has that ever stopped her? If she’s going to get back into acting, she might as well make new friends.

She steps over to Ilhoon’s side, smiling as she greets him, “Hello, Sunbae. I’m excited to work with you!”

To say the table read had been going poorly would be putting it mildly. Mijung had been furious since she discovered that main lead in the big vehicle meant to move her away from spoiled villainess roles was Choi Ilhoon of all people. She’d once admired and respected him, but CounterPoint, as it had done with much of her life, turned that on its head. She now resented his rabid fans and their petty acusations. More than that, she associated Ilhoon with her greatest failure. The pain and disappointment, still fresh so many years later, focused into a glare in his direction every time he spoke.

Mijung was only too eager to escape the suffocating room when the director wisely called for a break. She needed space. More importantly, she needed time to consider how she would navigate the next couple of months. The universe had other plans.

As she rounded a corner, Mijung bumped into the person she least wanted to see.

“Ilhoon Sunbaenim,” she said, with gritted teath and averted eyes, followed by a small bow of her head. “Pardon me, I just need to get some fresh air.”

“Dude, you look like shit.” He looked between the couch and Ilhoon. “Do you need a nap? Because I will not be carrying you if you fall asleep at the movies. I only do that on the third date and you are not my type.” To be fair, that type was severely limited, but the point remained. 

It was always weird when he had to take care of someone older than him. “If not, at least get some sugar in you.” Sunan always had an assortment of baked goods at hand. They were usually for himself, or for sucking up, but he supposed they were good enough friends for him to share.
