15-Day Paper Mario Challenge
Day 8: Best overall character
Count Bleck from Super Paper Mario. He is definitely the best villain in the Paper Mario series. While he does intend to destroy the world (it seems the main villain in something always wants to either rule the world or destroy it, though usually the former), I do like his motivations and backstory. While he was still called Lord Blumiere, he fell in love with Lady Timpani, the girl who nursed him back to health after he had been gravely injured. However, she is from the Tribe of Ancients and he is from the Tribe of Darkness, causing Blumiere's father to disapprove of their proposed marriage. But before the two can elope, it is revealed that Timpani has been killed. This crushes Blumiere. At first he doesn't believe it and searches the worlds for her. But when he eventually accepts the fact, he seeks solace in a forbidden tome, the Dark Prognosticus. The book overpowers him and he becomes Count Bleck, now intending to put an end to all worlds.
His deep backstory easily puts him as my favorite character. And it gives Super Paper Mario its religious edge that the previous games also had. Blumiere trusted a sinful prophecy to ease his sorrow and it would eventually lead to his ruin. At least, it would if it weren't for some spoilers that I'm leaving out, despite the fact that this game is five years old and its console is not current anymore, the spoilers are easily accessible on the internet, I've revealed a good deal of spoilers already, and you could probably figure them out just from reading this post.
However, since I mention the internet, Bleck is given an awesome voice in SyKhotic's LP of Super Paper Mario (at least after the intro video). Check it out if you like/are interested in this game. And this concludes the advertisement portion of today's program.
