Nasi Lemak From Hawker & Roll, Sylvia Park. Giving this joint another try, on Uncle’s journey home from Vegan Cooking Contest judging at E-PACS. He’s seen photos of the Nasi Lemak served at H&R. But imagery is always further from the actual truth. For a start, it comes in a much smaller enamel plate. The nasi is rather moist and lacking in “lemak”. The sambal lacks a kick, the Ikan bilis is flavour deficient. Thumbs up for for the stir-fried peanuts, they have skin on. The egg is singed brown before it’s cut. The basic Nasi Lemak is $10. For an extra $6, you can have add-ons of either beef rendang/fried chicken/chickpea masala. Verdict: shouldn’t have bothered. Hawker & Roll Pulled sticky pork in a flaky roti canai wrap. Beautifully flavoured, pulled pork was moist though a tad too sweet. Perfect canai wrap. At $14, certainly not hawker priced.
