Sympathy vs. Empathy
Don’t mistake my actions for sympathy, When it’s only a detached empathy. I may give to you, But it’s only because that’s The only way I know how To help the others. But when it comes down to it, I only hate the timing And the method, The original action is not at fault. Those words were never meant For your eyes, But if I were you, I would rather know Than not know. Take it as An opportunity to learn, An opportunity to grow, Recognize that You are not a victim of his observations, You were simply an object of his thoughts. He never meant you any harm, And he is not your villain. He wrote to deal With a moment of realization; He doesn’t let himself Cry often enough, So he lets his pen do it for him, And sometimes his guitar. You know this, So why are you so surprised? You were a big part of his life, You should have suspected this. Look, I know this sounds aggressive, But my point is this: Do not let this derail you, Stop trying to get revenge. You cannot touch him, He only feels bad for you. It is not important in The grand scheme of things, And since he is no longer A huge part of your life, Does it really even matter? ~A.G. 12/3/18
