still educating us even though he has returned to the universe Thank you Carl
Listening to amazing science music while fumbling to put together IKEA really makes one feel less smart (though I did *just* wake from a nap) #IKEA #citylife #sciencerocksmysocks #symphonyofscience #melodysheep #music
Have you ever wanted to hear Bill Nye sing? Well this is as close as you’re going to get! To be honest, I don’t know why this isn’t getting more attention! I don’t normally like auto tune, but this is gold. :D Published on Sep 12, 2012 A musical investigation into the causes and effects of global climate change and our opportunities to use science to offset it. Featuring Bill Nye, David Attenborough, Richard Alley and Isaac Asimov. "Our Biggest Challenge" is the 16th episode of the Symphony of Science series by melodysheep. Visit http://symphonyofscience.com for more science remixes! Materials used in the creation of this video come from: - Are We Changing Planet Earth? - Bill Nye - Climate - Eyes of Nye - Climate Change - Earth: The Operator's Manual - An Inconvenient Truth - Hot Planet - How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth - Human Planet Thanks for watching!
Symphony of Science has returned, and featuring Brian Cox.
I’m listening to some science youtube remixes. I got caught up when I remembered my favorite Carl Sagan remix. (Full Playlist of Symphony of Science)
I’m currently drawing up a tattoo idea that involves two Plesiosaurs and the astrological Pisces symbol. More on that later.
Another amazing video by Melodysheep
SYMPHONY OF SCIENCE: "We Are All Connected"
I've definitely mentioned the SoS series here before, but I had to post this particular video and couple it with something that happened yesterday.
The very first tutorial for the science communication course I've picked up as part of the science degree, began with this video.
The tutor didn't say anything, nor wait for the chatter to die down... she just started playing it. After roughly 20 seconds the room was silent as the autotuned tones of Carl Sagan and co sunk in.
I thought... great! The first obvious art-science crossover on day one of tutorials, and she'd used SoS, a well known viral artistic remixer of science.
So you can imagine my surprise when she asked who in the room had seen the video before... and only one person put thier hand up (no prizes for guessing who). One guy even completely missed the artistic point of the video, and murmured that there was "too much auto tune".
I expected that sort of thing in the hard sciences, but not in sci-comm.
Anyway, she wants people to bring in examples of similar things each week. So if anyone has or knows of any fantastic bits of art-science (preferably with a science outreach bent) of any medium I can ply these science students with... feel free to throw them at me. Certainly going to have a lot of fun with this, over the weeks.
Also, some interesting trivia: there's a plaque in that same tutorial room that says Richard Dawkins opened the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science at the ANU. Dawkins of course features in a number of SoS videos.
