Meet the stars of one of summer’s most exclusive performances:
Fireflies.
On a stage that only nature can build, the Synchronous Fireflies light up the Smoky Mountains for two weeks only. As part of their mating ritual, these fireflies illuminate at the same time, creating a dazzling effect. This year, tickets were a hot commodity as 21,000 people vied for the 1,800 coveted passes.
“It seems like a once in a lifetime experience,” one attendee told NBC News of the twinkling extravaganza.
