im 20h into Yakuza 0, completely enamored, but I think Syndicate themed Witcher game would slap

reuse Novigrad from tw3, write a tight story, and add one or two mini games next to gwent, explore more of the lore for Syndicate and Big Four we already have, hell it could maybe still be done in red engine as a mod

Syndicate game would obviously have such minigames as:

Gwent, the most busted tw3 version a human can crack, this shit sucks to play, but you somehow want to anyway, fisstech of minigames

dice poker

chees 2.0

degenerate blackjack but with dice and the dice are collectibles (degenerate like in Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers)

mahjong <- for me <3

betting on horse races, no riding, no interactions, no stats or strategies, only betting

scrabble divination but make it gambling

after watching a nearly 5h long Disco Elysium video over the weekend I have been struck with the idea of maybe making the Syndicate game into a sidescroller beat'em up with an elaborate narrative that will really let you sink your teeth into Novi, but with one quirk that Protag would always have only 2 dialog options: tell truth or lie - where the actual line is always the same, and you're just changing the context and your own (player) perception of what's being said

but as much as i love that idea, and it will always return to me like a fuckin boomerang, I am afraid it betrays the initial vision of just doing horrible polish Yakuza

im trying to be careful about making up plot of Syndicate game because at some point it just turns into a book instead of a game, of one thing im sure that i would want to put emphasis on and that's forms of address

yeah yeah going through Yakuza/Lads series certainly is part of the reason, but it's really cool how much information you can get just through that! and so many languages do that, in many fascinating ways, even English to some degree, and I think it would be interesting to differentiate how secondary characters interact with Protag

let's say Albrecht, a crackhead priest, man living a double lie, using very long polite forms, "Could you please?...", "Wouldn't you", this kind of stuff, but mixed up with horrible diminutives, it's not Count or Sir de Wett, or even Roderick, but Dick, Rod (make it more phallic, I'll wait). Not Master or Mister Zaleglowicz, no Feliks, but Fela (feminine), Fifi (literally the wrong name, Fifi is Philip). for some reason Albrecht calls Grandmaster Jack (but only when mentioning him to Roderick)

also this ties to the fact that I have a name for Protagonist - Sebastian. not only is it very nice, gay, saint name, but also immediately reminds me of dresy. Seba, Sebix, Bastian, Bastek - i know this guy, from my block. i feel like I don't even have to describe him.

still thinking about Syndicate Witcher spinoff

and obviously, i see it as a beat'em up, Protag is meant to be a street thug who ends up way over his head, but this gives me 2 problems

first is, that it's the Witcherverse, there's magic and shit, and just from my experience of reading and running ttrpg its clear that on some levels it's very hard to excuse a regular ass person (human, elf, whatever) going against any spell caster or any person with actual fighting training (but to be honest mostly in weapons, swords and such)

obviously video game logic doesn't equal ttrpg logic, but there still is quite a bit of power difference, and that's before we consider mutants (witchers), so there's very clear ceiling of opponents Protag can go against and survive, let alone win. so no evil gay mage big baddies 😩

the second problem is that i just don't any brawlers, Yakuza series is now quite literally the first time I'm playing such a game and I'm drawing blanks at how to even begin to think about it without just copypasting yakuza's heat actions system 😩

First, the economic and research model is real-time. But, again, the background music is totally forgettable. Whenever you blow up a car or anything else, you get a deep resonating boom that's full of energy. The explosion sounds are particularly well done. Each weapon in the game has its own distinct firing sound and, for the most part, they're fairly realistic. The game fields some impressive sound effects but, unfortunately, complements that with a set of average background music tracks. The world is so lush with detail and coloring you'll find it worthwhile to pan around before each mission - not only to see where things are but just to take it all in. That high level of detail is also present in other characters as well as in game maps. They move around with very smooth animation sequences and you can see quite a lot of detail in the sprites. You'll keep coming back to try different things or to beat levels using different strategies.Įven though your characters are about the size of pinheads, they're still well drawn. Take rides in cars or trains, climb up to rooftops or go through hidden tunnels - you can even blow up those pesky cars in the game should you so desire. You can interact with just about anything you find. The varied world maps give you a great deal of strategic flexibility. Both are equally effective but require vastly different strategies.

#Syndicate game upgrade#

For example, you can research heavy weapons early-on or conduct research to upgrade the Persuadetron's capabilities. The range of research choices adds quite a bit in terms of variety to the beginning of the game. Blast your way into an assassination target's lair with superior firepower or try to take him out from a distant rooftop with one long-range sniper shot. Levels have pre-set goals but the way you go about achieving them is entirely up to you. The highly addictive gameplay is Syndicate's main selling point. Syndicate, despite a few minor flaws, is a unique and thoroughly enjoyable action strategy game.
