“The jazz clarinetist turned club kid.” – The Guardian
"Africa, Asia, Europe and native America became the source material, space and silence became the structure, and composing, improvising and the continued development of instrumental facility became the tasks...I always felt like a complete island unto myself” – Roland Young
This is the stuff I live for....weirdo’s making love songs with synthesizers.
Roland Young is a jazz musician that made music in his bedroom studio during the 80s in New York. Those experimental sessions turned out synth-pop and synth boogie hits that are incredibly strange. “Go Away”, off the album Hearsay I-land, is this week’s lost classic.
Loose Shus - Loose Shus EP (2013)
Loose Shus is a funk ambassador from San Fran, who's grooves are a smooth blend of modern funk, cosmic disco and experimental synth boogie. Loose is backed by Voltaire Records, the home for fellow funkstas K-Maxx and XL Middleton. XL is also on the record, laying down the keyboard solos on Saturation.
The info tells a fun fact. The instruments used on the EP span three decades: from the 80s he used the Oberheim DX, Akai Ax60, Yamaha TX81z, to the 90s Roland JX-305, and onto present day software.
Fun fact part two: I'm gonna play this one loud on equipment from three decades: my iPhone, early 90's amp and OR speakers from the 70's.

B. Bravo - Kiss 'n' Tell EP ( 2011 )
More Funk! Modern Funk that is. 2 years ago B.Bravo, a producer from San Francisco, came out with a beautiful Kiss 'n' Tell EP. It was a debut release from the London-based music and art collective Earnest Endeavours.
"His new wave, future funk and synth-heavy boogie comes loaded with guttural bass and sweaty, thickset grooves."
