Misc. Thoughts on The Bloodborne Movie
Ah, the great art of cinema! As a devoted last horse in my task of crossing the finish line, I only found out about the reality of an animated BB movie being in production after all my other (either current or former) Bloodborneheads had gotten the news Paul Revere style. We'll say feelings on the situation are mixed at best and pessimistic at worst. For the record (and to Jack's credit), people are often mistaking him to be the writer/director, of which he is neither. Jack is a producer on the film, which for longtime Spedicey fans ought to come as a relief instead of a letdown. My thoughts? The movie won't be gratifying for fans of the game. Let's be realistic-- Bloodborne is a multi-narrative time-bending moral-speedrunning gorefest of Victorian quandaries and Eldritch Vagueness. It was NEVER built to be a movie. It's full of cinematography, of course, but we cannot reasonably expect ANY film team (much less one with a Youtuber on the project) to be up to major studio standard. I'm tempering my standards while I have them because any Bloodborne content is good content, and expecting everything to be to your exact tastes all the time is a surefire way to be miserable about adaptations. "Oh, but what about Iron Lung? You're giving some room for Bloodborne to be terrible, but Iron Lung was also about a video game and rivaled major studios!" Hot take, but Iron Lung is designed to be able to turn into a film. We have so LITTLE information on the world of Iron Lung that there's a lot to be built, and the story is extremely linear, with a very VERY small cast. Bloodborne is none of those things. Not every character will get screentime. Not every character will be richly written. (also...and I'm sorry, Markiplierheads, because I know Jack likely will have the same problem-- but I can't stand when films LOOK like youtube videos all shiny and plasticine with a billion closeup shots. I understand it's a limited set and the lighting was the major focus but the audience member in me did start counting the amount of times we focused on Simon's eyes or hands. About as many blood, sleep, night, and hand references as Macbeth! On the bright side: BLOODBORNE IS GETTING AN ADAPTATION AFTER ELEVEN LONG YEARS OF SILENCE! Let us rejoice! Let us celebrate! Mind breaking film or not, I'm absolutely ECSTATIC that Bloodborne is being discussed again! Do I have worries about the film? Sure! But you'd be a parboiled cauliflower to think I wouldn't go and watch it the day it comes out. We forget that adaptations are just that, adapting off the original material, it's VERY RARE that they are excellent works in their own right. The joy comes from knowing something you like as one thing gets to be another thing!
All in all, I'm excited, and expecting a fun ride. Do I expect any Laurence/Micolash/Healing Church/Byrgenwerth crumbs? Not really, and I'd be SHOCKED if we even got any character focus on people besides "current" characters like Gerhman, The Doll, The Hunter, Eileen, seeing as everything we know about the BOSSES is either speculation or occurred in the past, but that didn't stop me from jumping 5 feet in the air once I recalled that Micolash is one of the 8 mandatory bosses in game which means no matter how you slice it we WILL see a bit of him :)
Now, my only remaining concern is the animation style...I assume 3D, because 2D is expensive and difficult, but we'll just have to hope it's not a minecraft sheep situation.
I didn't write this to sway anybody one way or the other, but just to get my thoughts out before we get more information so I can compare and contrast later. Exciting! If you read this far, congrats, you get a Blood Gem :D

Why am I getting back into Detroit: Become Human right when it’s about to have its EIGHT(?) year anniversary. Why am I never into things when they’re cool. Sigh.

Finally watched Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein and while I have my thoughts about the costuming and departures from the book (no Clerval? 🥹 no Clerval for me? 🥹) I could not stop thinking about that guy who said “I miss when movies looked like movies and not YouTube skits.” Grand film 7/10 overall
