chat what academic phrases do you have stuck in your head
my favorites:
— synthetic unity of apperception, owing to Kant. technically applicable to any situation, but too broad to meaningfully apply to anything. as is the case with a lot of Kant, honestly. fun to say.
— asymmetric dualism of the linguistic sign, owing to Saussure technically, although I picked it up from Kluev’s brilliant “Между двух стульев”. sounds better in Russian.
— structural constraints and endogenous preferences, picked up from that one Analytical Marxist paper I was translating. perfect for explaining any situation. downside: really easy to confuse endogenous preferences with exogenous, they’re named backwards.
