A North Texas state representative wants to stop Texans under the age of 18 from using social media and has filed legislation that will requ
Please, please don’t let this go unnoticed
As a Texan minor, this is horrifying. This is a violent, subtle attack on queerness. Texas is notably pretty shitty and doesn’t give any education about queerness. We only have the option of being informed about queerness and things in wined with queerness because of social media. A lack of community and support for queer teen will lead to a an intentional self genocide. People will die because of this, people who would’ve lived if they had people to talk to, people like them. Social media is an escape from the hell of living in this such a bigoted place. Being on social media helps many teens stick around to become happy adults. I know it’s helped me so much. Even with its cons, social media is something so essential to teens in situations like mine. The only thing this will do is keep people ignorant of what could be.
They’ll verify by drivers license and photo Id. Random social media sites will know you’re real name, real face, real identity. The surveillance state will get so much worse. Ads could be targeted over potential physical insecurities. There will be no potential for privacy. There will be no anonymity left. Social media company owners and the government can track you so much more easily with this bill.
So please, please don’t let this happen. I know you probably think of texas as a place full of bigoted pieces of shits. It is, which is a huge reason this is so important. This cuts teens off from life saving friendships. We’ll be stuck in a bubble of intolerance. We won’t have that much access to people from safer places, places we could escape to. This will kill people, mainly queer people. But there will be others, other people who rely on social media to give them what they don’t have at home, in texas. Please don’t let this pass under the radar, they are trying to murder us, and it will work.
Please reblog this so people know what could happen
