Etc: Clock Tower 3 was something of a departure from the earlier games, with no point-and-click interface and just one ending. It was also made by a different developer, as Human Entertainment had folded 3 years earlier.

Etc: Rule of Rose came out close to the release of Haunting Ground, another horror game starring a blond female protagonist who is aided by a dog over the course of the game. However in Rule of Rose, it is Jennifer who must fight the in-game creatures while Brown supports her in solving the puzzles, as opposed to Haunting Ground where Hewie does all the fighting for Fiona. The story and themes of both games are also different, of course.

I'll be frank, I don't' remember much of Dark Cloud 2. (I -do- remember spending a week breeding racing fish, among Dark Cloud 2's many mini games and other strange gizmos) But from what I can remember, Monica was just fine.

I like that she is a princess and yet picks up a sword and fights for her kingdom and father. She also wielded magic and could turn into monsters! So, quite the go-getter. And also, while her clothes aren't the most defensive thing I've ever seen, they are neither too revealing nor ridiculous. They look like nice, casual, comfortable clothes. Stuff a real girl might wear!
