Piggybacking off of @fosterem’s post…

I was licensed for one child. I was able to take the sibling without issue. I could technically take another baby (agh) because we’re allowed to have babies sleep in our bedrooms until age one. Once the baby was older one I’d have to get a waiver or move, because the square footage in the kids’ bedroom wouldn’t meet the requirements for three. We have to have 50 Sq ft per child. Also, the regulations state every child needs their own physical bed.

But also, they are DESPERATE for beds (aka placement spots). I’ve received calls for way out of age range. For example, I’m licensed 0-3 and got calls for a 17 year old. And when I say I don’t physically have the room and I’m at capacity they ask if the child can sleep on my couch or on an air bed on the living room floor. They say they’ll buy the air bed.

Licensing requirements are good and safe and important but wholly impractical when you’re so low on foster homes that the social worker is driving four hours away to find a couch for a kid to sleep on.

"The "System" is a metaphor for what we allow, vote for, or stand for. We create the very prisons that keep us trapped.

How does changing ourselves change the system? It changes the way in which we view the world, thus, it changes, who we vote for, what we vote for, and what we stand for.

It is part of the human condition, though, that we sometimes hold on to what is bad for us, because it is consistent and perversely gives us a sense of safety. Change for some can be scary for a myriad of reasons, whats the quote, "Better the Devil you know". The perspective I offer is, by this very reckoning, means we are the creators of our own system of imprisonment.

My conclusion, if you want to change the world, change yourself."

Lets be clear about this. Now when you apply positive opportunities to the oppressed and marginalized population you see different results then when negative opportunities are presented. You cannot plant a flower in cement and expect it to grow.
