My Mac is on Fira
Being tired of Helvetica Neue as the standard system font on Mac OS X, I searched for an alternative system font and found it in Fira.
Fira was designed for the new mobile operating system Firefox OS by german typographer Erik Spiekermann and since Fira is especially designed for being used on displays, it’s much better to read and to scan than Helvetica Neue.
Unfortunately, there are some minor bugs each and every alternative system font has to hazzle with on Mac OS X, e. g. some baseline issues where the text is displayed too high or too low in some cases (notice the battery capacity, for example).
For me, the much better readability on the plus side is worth it, so that I can live with these bugs.
Install/Uninstall
To install Fira, download the FiraSystemFontReplacement, install Fira System Font.pkg and restart your Mac.
If you’re not comfortable with it, just go to the folder /Library/Fonts on your Mac, remove FiraSystem.ttc and restart your Mac again. Helvetica Neue is the standard font again, then.
