Transitioning entire societies towards more sustainable, long-term futures is what Thomas Berry called the ‘great work’ of the 21st century. It will involve ongoing system change over long horizons of time. And it will challenge us to develop a deep understanding of complex systems, their anatomy and dynamics. Which will require new knowledge and skillsets, new mindsets and postures, which will give rise to new ways of designing.
