Psych analysis: M!Kye ♟
Hello! My first ever tumblr post as well as my first post about Mythcraft. SPOILERS FOR KYEJAMO'S STREAMS,, ESPECIALLY THE LATEST ONES
Disclaimer: I am not yet a professional psychologist, just a psych major with 3 years of class knowledge and a dream. Most of my knowledge about M!Kye is also what I could glean from his streams + my own personal experience playing on the SMP :)
I also highly urge y'all to watch Kye's streams, just in general, but he really puts on a good show with Mythcraft!
Without furhter ado... KyeJamo analysis
(note: whenever I refer to Kye from this point onward, I’m talking about M!Kye)
The Omelette situation.
M!Kye seems genuinely remorseful for his actions, and I think he is. Kye protects his family, and M!Crispy was presenting a direct threat to that by killing Aspen, so he wants to kill Crispy to make her understand what that pain was (in the process getting too caught up in the thrill and making Crispy feel fear and slipping up)– Omelette was just the very unfortunate collateral damage which starts this cycle of death and betrayal in M!Kye's life that never fully mends over.
He didn't intend to kill Omelette, he was shooting for Crispy. While murder is detestable and Kye gets his comeuppance in the court of public opinion , it was a kill or be killed situation. This is where the opinions start to split on Kye and Crispy. M!Kye could feel like nobody is on his side and it's out of his control, which is a big thing.
Kye towards the end of his last life presents as someone very apathetic and numb to the things around him, which is unsurprising given the huge amount of trauma we could glean from the loss of his first two lives.
Another thing before I touch on that is M!Kye withdrawing and fully dedicating himself to Devo while neglecting those around him is a way to get that aforementioned control back.
Devo is a thing, it is static and malleable unlike a person, Devo can be molded into something that won't betray him. M!Crispy killing him started to crack the already slightly chipped psyche. M!Mali taking his second life could be seen as a worse betrayal, as this is his coparent and Aspen's mum which only sinks the knife further (pun not intended), especially with how easily she was willing to give him to Edgarr before she decided to finish the job.
His continued perceived betrayals at the hands of others do nothing to strengthen his psyche, as he feels he trusts too easily and it backfires on him. He thinks people are only using him to get information without talking to him like a person.
By this point he is so numb to everything that he sees Devo as a thing to be destroyed, it's no longer his prize, his motivator, his legacy. Now it's a burden. And he gets rid of burdens.
ALSO ANOTHER UNMENTIONED THING: I think the fact that he didn't tell Aspen he was on his last life says a lot about Kye's character. It shows that while he did change for the better, some fundamental part of him still needed to cling onto that control. I don't think it was just plain control of course, the main part is that he genuinely cares for Aspen and he didn't want to strain fey's relationship with Mali further. This makes sense as he already had resigned himself to his fate mentally and thinks he is a bad influence on Aspen, that he isn’t worthy of being her dad.
Blowing up Devo is cathartic for Kye, he feels like a weight is off his shoulders. No longer the Mayor, the Killer, the Hated. He is just Kye. M!Kye blowing up Devo is him blowing up the (in my eyes) "naive" part of himself, the part that gave everything and was still left with nothing. When he got to Jem for the last time, he did feel the fear of mortality kick in though, wanting to stay at Jem's Tavern and "running away" into the attic/top floor. He knows there's nothing waiting for him, and he is terrified of going back to the nothing waiting for him. But he does find something, the hotel is his something, his one thing to hold onto in the afterlife. He isn't alone, even if it's an insane amount of hims. He has some purpose in his inactivity. He’s not the Mayor of Devo. He’s one Kye in a sea of others, content to spend the rest of his time in the Hotel.
And that was my little analysis! I hope you guys enjoyed it and I will try and do more of them when I get a better feel for the characters. I think I might do a M!Vee analysis soon so... stay tuned for that teehee
