(image 1) Molinello to the head from the left, from point in line, on the commands: One! - turn the first from right to left by rotating the forearm, so that the edge of sabre is turned up without raising the fist (N. 15). Two! - bend the arm, lowering the blade tip toward the ground, and carry the sabre along the left flank with the edge turned to the left. The grip is to the left of and at head height approximately eight inches in front of the head; the body is balanced as in the guard position (N. 16). Three! - with power from the arm and body movement, the sabre describes three-quarters of a circle from high to low, starting above and behind the head, bringing the sabre and the extended arm to a horizontal position in front of the body at head height with the edge turned toward the ground (N. 17). (image 2) For the execution of the molinello to the face from the right, from the position of point in line, the edge of the blade is already to the right. Therefore, movement does not need to be made, and the following commands are given: *Two! - raise the sabre with forearm movement and straighten and body, carry the fist to the height of the head, approximately ten inches away from the right temple, the blade vertical with the tip slanted somewhat to the left, and the edge to the right (N. 21). Three! - with arm power coming from behind, tighten the fist and give power to the movement of the sword with the body. The sabre should describe a horizontal semicircle at the height of the shoulder, so as to return the body and the sabre to the position of point in line, with the edge to the left (N. 18). In order to facilitate the molinello and the path of the sword, remember to bend at the waist and at the same time to twist the left shoulder back while advancing the sword. Concerning the movement of the arm, cast the fist away from the body as little as possible. Sebastian of VHCA Melbourne demonstrating some actions from Radaelli’s 19th century military sabre.
