rules: answer these questions & tag 9 people you'd like to know better

reading: i never read most of the works that are considered english-language classics but those seem important as grounding for an aspiring english-language writer. so i’m going down a list. every one i’ve read so far ive enjoyed, right now i just started jane eyre which is tremendous fun. if u have strong opinions pls let me know what i should read next. i am easy to peer pressure.

i also got a book from the library on the history of koch, inc. but i keep having to put it down because it makes me so mad. (the history, not the book itself. mostly.) i find it well-reported on the whole, not that i would know. that said i wish it woud go more into the kochs' ideological influence (eg on the academic field of economics) because it seems to uncritically accept many of charles kochs claims on business.

series: i dont have the attention span to watch a whole series :(

last movie: i watched ‘helter skelter’ 2012 after seeing a gifset on this very site. a feast .. a film for the weird girls ..

last song: "simulation" by tkay mazda

all day ive had songs off tina snow stuck in my head, literally and by far megans most underrated project 😩

working on: revising my novel (pitch ‘what if enders shadow but everyone is an evil lesbian'.) (obviously not the pitch i would give to polite company.) after a long conversation with a classmate the other day i realized that the stakes are too high... girl screw the multiverse or whatever i've got going on... just as the most interesting part of the enderverse series is (to me) the psychological and the interpersonal drama, the most fun part to write of my novel is the psychological and the interpersonal drama ...

in terms of fanfiction i got so excited about @/achillesperceiver ‘achilles bs au’ i couldnt help but write a little bit for it ^^ ('the lake scene 2')

and idk if i mentioned on here yet but i'm starting to draw, i got sick of seeing all the gorgeous art and fanart you all post and not being able to make my own... i'm just messing around thouhg. right now im (working on a drawing of (predictably) a petra and valentine first date scenario, i'm nothing if not dedicated to the cuase of petratine, but it's my first time ever drawing or visualizing valentine and rn she looks like a bald old man with a comb-over and it's so upsetting to me i can hardly look at it.

sweet or salty? i have a HUGE sweet tooth. give me pure sugar.

coffee or tea? coffee by the same principal. give me pure caffeiene. give me anything that has stimulant properties.

🏳‍🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?

im going to order my most essential headcanons (confining myself to "lgbt, race, neuro" idk about any "etc") in order of plausibility from "purely speculative" to "more or less stated word for word in canon".

mexican polish wiggin siblings. purely speculative, nadia messing around, i got this from a couple times where ender speaks spanish but its not explicitly stated how he knows spanish.

i talk a lot about petra being gay but to be honest that’s less because of anything in particular than because i see myself in her and i’m a little gay myself and so its easy to project my own questioning sexuality onto her. if i’m being perfectly honest i wish there were more canon women so more choices for the ladies. i feel like i ship petra and val out of principle and blind faith more than out of any belief in their chemistry. girl im desperate here. for about 10 minutes i shipped petra and theresa. i can't live like this anymore.

now is a good time to mention. i was reading speaker for the dead on the treadmill and went a little too hard and stepped off before blacking out for 10 seconds and when i came to I realized: novinha is gay as well. if you don’t get it then hop on the treadmill yourself.

transfem ender. you could make a strong argument for it in canon.

gay bean. canon.

💢 what do you NOT like about your hyperfixation? is there something you would want to change about it?

girl where do i even START.

i initially typed out ‘if I had to choose one thing it would be the racism’ but its my genuine believe that the racism pervades everything else. the great replacement theory bioessentialism type shit carrying the plot of ES. the mormon missionary white saviour narrative of SFTD. and I dont remember what happens in the rest but i’m sure theres some vile stuff in there too. what plot would you have if you took out all the racism?

if youve ever wondered why im the type of fan just to focus on individual characters or groups of characters, rather than engaging with lore or greater themes, this is why.

anyway. getting back to the original question. this is like pulling weeds in the garden just before the Genesis flood but my one tiny thing would have to be removing from the world and from history and from memory all copies of EG with the racial slurs in them.

i love ender but i can't answer the question because i don't even know why i like ender. they just imprinted on me when i was young.

im also a big petra fan, i could share my "top 20 petra moments" list, but the concise version is it's really just a bad case of ‘shes just like me fr.' smart chick hated for her obnoxious, competitive personality? flawless hand-eye coordination? hello..

✨ what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it?

is there ever a good answer to 'why are you interested in your hyperfixation' lol.

this is a very hard question to answer, and the answer is not going to be ‘because it’s good.’ tbh, the enderverse series grew up with me and changed with me. I say this not in a 'nostalgia' way - I'm not a nostalgic person - but in the sense that I’m still finding new aspects or facets that appeal to me at every age.

Maybe because it is a sort of coming-of-age story, so the characters come of age along with me? (i learned the word "bildungsroman" from a pub trivia question about EG... these books have improved my vocabulary so much ^^)

when I was little, i read EG as a straightforwardly heroic story. all the angst and the morality bored me. as a result, i didn't really understand SFTD. when i got a little older and i was going through a hard time, i read it as an instruction manual, and I even got into military theory to be more like the characters, lol. glad that phase is over.

now i like to think i approach the series a little more critically. as i practice my own writing im interesting in taking it apart, seeing where it succeeds and fails. if you talked to me on discord you know, my favorite phrase is ‘such-and-such is an unreliable narrator’. im endlessly on about unreliable naration. idk what that says about my current life phase? ask me again in 10 years? im also interested in the themes of gender and sexuality, which is probably related to me questioning my own sexuality.

every time i post about something new, i make a new tag by adding 1 to the number at the end. so in the original example catelyn is the 19th person i posted about on this blog.

the dream part is not as interesting as it sounds. just before i decided to start this blog, i had a dream that i had a tumblr blog, and so i made the real blog match the dream blog. i always take advice from my dreams because you never know what wisdom they might have! <3 xx
