the fox & the hound

It had been weeks since he’d had enough free time to come out here.

Ronan took a deep breath, savoring the crisp autumn air. He sat in a sun-warmed patch of grass, watching dragonflies skim across the surface of the lake, their wings refracting the mid-day sun like thousands of tiny little diamonds. He tipped his head back and closed his eyes, reveling in absolute peace that permeated this space. 

Some of the others hated it here - superstitious lot that they were. Apparently, there bones at the bottom of the lake. A nasty past. And, as true as that may be, it meant fuck all to Ronan. He came for the stillness. The quiet. The connection to nature that he craved, that his wolf demanded. 

He dug one of his hands into the soft, pliable earth and idly allowed the dirt to slip through his fingers like silk. It smelled of loam and life and decay, in equal measures. Comforting and familiar. With a sigh, Ronan settled onto his back and crossed his arms over his chest. Eyes still closed, he drifted, enjoying the breeze and the gentle heat of the sun.

A quick nap wouldn’t hurt.
