The noon bells had only just quieted when Thaddeus stepped out of the campus chapel, the faint smell of incense clinging to his jacket. He carried it with him across the quad, through the stone archway, and into his classroom. The space was empty this time of day. He set his leather satchel down on the desk, straightening the papers that didn't need straightening, then turned, grabbing a dry erase marker and beginning to write on the board.
The door creaked open a moment later and he began to speak, "History," he began, "teaches us that nothing - no matter how mighty lasts forever. Kingdoms fall. Leaders die. Families fracture. And yet --" He turned back toward the door with a soft smile. "... people endure. They rebuild. They carry memory with them, even when it feels unbearable."
He gestured toward the rows of empty desks, stepping around his desk. He propped his hip up against the corner, half sitting on the corner. "What can I help you with today?"
