wang li & huang xinwei ; love at first sight au
li doesn’t even remember how long it’s been since he last met up with guozhi. ages, probably. the night shifts at the hospital have fried his brain until there’s nothing much left to think clearly with, or that’s what it feels like. not that he’s doing nothing but night shifts, but honestly the little amount of rest he gets on the weeks where he’s running day shifts is not enough to clear his mind.
but who is he to say no to an invitation from an old high school friend he used to get along with really well? he knows that outings with guozhi always end up being absolutely amazing and fun - and he sure as hell can use some good vibes in his life right now. it’s not like he’s not getting closer and closer to thirty, life passing him by at insane speed with no idea of how he’s going to be able to live it if it keeps going like this.
so, he’s cleared his evening and the following morning, made sure his shift at the hospital is covered and has pulled some of his not often worn clothes from his closet, ready to spend an evening with drinks, friends, laughter and hopefully a lot of stuff to take his mind off of the inevitable doom of reality.
the bar he finds himself walking up to looks quite cosy from the outside, but as the door opens it reveals a still spacious inside with plenty of room for a whole lot of people to fit in there, and the noise of them all talking is what greets him. somehow the entirety of it makes him smile, glad to be back in a place like this and to be capable of letting go of all of his worries if only for a single night.
he browses the people present, eyes going over stranger after stranger, until he spots the familiar face of his old friend and quickly heads over there. “guozhi! yo man!” he greets the other as he closes in, causing the attention to turn to him temporarily. he grins easily, unable to keep the expression from forming on his face as he sees his good friend. “it’s been ages, how you been?”
he undergoes the wave of greetings he gets from people he used to know and entirely new faces, being pulled to sit down by guozhi and having a drink in hand in under ten seconds. contrary to what one might think after not having been in the company of this many people in who knows how long, it doesn’t unsettle him. instead he leans into the chair they put him down on easily and smiles and nods at everyone, before pouring the contents of his glass down his throat in one go.
it’s time to unwind. finally.
