Rethink your use…

Rethink the way you use the spaces in your house to utilize them for better diabetes management. Here are some ways to reconsider your use and how you might turn it toward improving your health…
Entry way - It’s not just where you drop your keys. Think about using this space as a staging area for out-of-the-house work out equipment. I keep my swim suit, towel, and sweat shirt in the drawers of the entry way table so I can snatch them conveniently on my way to the pool. I keep my swim floating belt on the entry way table ready for a fast grab as I run out the door to make open swim time. This also works as a reminder asking “Have I gone swimming today?” every time I pass by!
Kitchen - Think of it as the staging area to generate diabetic friendly foods. Upgrade your idea of the part this room plays in your overall health. It’s not just where you keep the fruit bowl (or cookies!). Throw open your cupboards, spice drawer, and fridge to think about different combinations of seasonings with foods.
It’s also where I keep my blood meter, etc. to remind myself to check my levels when I’m about to eat.
Deck/Spare room - Mine were increasingly becoming a junk depository and storage space. Ugh! Instead, I gave myself the gift (by doing a clear out!) of an outdoor workout space on the deck for the recumbent stationery bike. The spare room is a space for my husband’s elliptical trainer (and TV!).
Rethink how you use your home. Turn it toward improving your health!

My older daughter has an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/wildwovenwomen - where she designs and hand knits striped afghans worked from recycled yarn.
