@tabby5 mentioned on post of mine “I expect they all will have some role to play on the ring. What do you think for each? Obviously Raven will be mechanic and Monty engineer, but I’m trying to think of others like Echo for instance.” I wanted to answer it here so it’d be separate from the Murphy-centric post.
Ok, I actually have been thinking about this a lot. Raven will definitely mainly be concerned with fixing up the ship and, while Monty will assist with that (and step in if they need an engineer instead of a mechanic) I think he’ll also be focused on starting and maintaining the Algae farm - he IS the only one from Farm Station there.
He’ll have to have some helpers in the first month or so while his hands heal, though.
I just really like to think of Murphy as the designated Ark doctor, so I’m sticking with that - Nurse Murphy will finally happen in season 5. Hopefully. Alternatively, I can see him getting roped into being Monty’s helper with the Algae Farm - along with Harper, maybe? - and also helping with food prep - though I really don’t think that’s going to be much of a job in space. There’s only so many ways you can eat algae without spices or any other ingredients.
Emori will end up helping Raven, I think. She’s had an association with tech in the past, and I like to think that she understands it and machines fairly well thanks to her interactions with ALIE. Certainly more than most grounders. I like to think that she’ll end up becoming a zero-g mechanic alongside Raven - at least in the beginning, when they’ll probably have lots to fix up on the Ring from when the rest of the Ark blasted off and Raven really needs a helper. Also, inside the Ring with its artificial gravity, Emori can help Raven do things that she can’t do now with her leg. I love the thought of the two of them being a badass disabled team, with Raven being the one with two working hands, and Emori being the one with two working legs and them making up for each other’s weaknesses
Echo is tricky. In ANY other society, she’d absolutely end up as a spy or a warrior if that wasn’t necessary. But neither of those are needed on the Ring. They have no enemies to fight. I think Echo is going to really struggle for a while, with seemingly no purpose and no identity - she doesn’t know who she is outside of her clan - and totally out of her element. I think perhaps she might just bounce around to help with whatever is needed and become a sort of Jack of all trades, though she won’t become an expert in any one area.
Harper is ALSO tricky because, like with Echo, I mainly see her as a guard/warrior and I don’t really know what she would be outside of that. Maybe she helps Monty with the algae farm - they would need more than one person since that is a pretty big deal for their survival, and she’d get to spend time with him. I think being focused on growing their food source might help her find a purpose again, and helping bring life to something instead of dealing with so much death might be really therapeutic and good for her.
And Bellamy is of course, alongside Raven, going to be the main leader of the group. I think for the most part they’ll have a democratic society, but if they ever need to have one main deciding voice, it’s going to be Bellamy. The finale definitely set him up to fall into a comforting role for the others, too - which is needed. There’s a lot of traumatized people up there, and they all need a good Bellamy Blake Motivating Speech at times. As for an actual job on the Ring - I’d love to see the return of Seamstress!Bellamy. I think it’s something they’re actually really going to need, too. They didn’t bring extra clothes and I don’t know how much is up there - I’m not sure if there’s living quarters in Go-Sci. So he’ll mend their clothes and maybe cobble together new ones from whatever fabric they can find.
I’m just so excited to see how the Space Squad works and lives together!
