I want to let you know how much i'm enjoying the bee gees content! my dad is having a 60s music quarantine moment and I suggested watching the hbo documentary since I saw you post about it, we loved it and it lead to him breaking out his saturday night fever vinyl he got when he was 12 ✨

yesssssssss lauren this makes me so happy to hear; also i too broke out my OG vinyl copy of the saturday night fever soundtrack after watching the documentary back in december and it truly is an immediate serotonin boost

I have not thought about fiddler on the roof in years and now you have reminded me not only that it exists but also the fact I was Shprintze in a production of it in 4th grade in which we took a black and white family portrait that I own to this day (I sadly only have one of three editions because we had three Tevyes - everyday, singing, and internal monologue)

📌 Star Trek and Star Wars!

i can’t remember exactly how i got into star trek; it was something that was on television in reruns quite a bit, so i must have stumbled across it at some point. i watched all of TOS at a very young age, with the peak of it being my special interest occurring sometime around the age of ten to twelve, and then went on to get more into next gen and deep space nine 

i saw the original trilogy in the complete wrong order growing up; i somehow started with return of the jedi when i was around eight years old, and then saw a new hope and empire strikes back. i always really loved leia and luke; i thought han was annoying in a new hope but liked him a lot when he went out to rescue luke on hoth in empire strikes back, which changed my opinion of him

Thoughts on horror movies!

horror is a hugely important genre that i wish was taken more seriously critically outside of specifically horror studies

i also think the definition of horror is very subjective; it’s a very personal genre, and examining exactly what about the films you’re watching you find scary (and why) is key to understanding how a film works

here are some of my fave horror movies (some of which people debate about whether they’re horror or thriller or whatever, but to me, they are firmly rooted in horror technique and aesthetic): M, the shining, a clockwork orange, carrie, les diaboliques, get out, us, the lighthouse, whatever happened to baby jane?, the hills have eyes, the texas chain saw massacre, les yeux sans visage, the night of the hunter, black swan
