WIP WEDNESDAY
A snippet from my day 2 fic (Reunions) for @tabioriweek 🐦⬛🐑
In the yawning darkness of a lion's maw, Sendou pivots towards the goal, ignoring Barou's calls for the ball. But as Kaiser and Isagi move to steal, a third figure darts into the goal box, metavision eyes seizing an opening for a future yet untold.
Raichi crashes into Sendou as the ball goes flying towards the net.
Off-kilter, it hits Gagamaru's glove, the tips of his fingers pushing it back out onto the field.
In that moment, luck falls on Niko Ikki.
A wave of emotion crashes into Hiori as the buzzer marks the winning goal of the match, the waters too murky with things yet unprocessed — guilt, grief, a lifetime of resentment. But there's relief welling up through the tears that spill from his eyes, joy in the laughter that spills from his mouth. His shoulders feel lighter somehow as he slumps to the floor, running his hands over the turf grass that had dominated so much of his life since birth.
"I quit," he whispers to it, speaking words that he'd only ever dared utter in his own daydreams. He closes his eyes to savor the moment.
It's with a lightness in his step that Hiori Yo walks out of Blue Lock later that week, future unclear yet finally something worth looking forward to.
