This article traces the development of tablets from early visions to today's ubiquitous devices. Although the first realizable Tablet emerged in the 2010s, the concepts behind portable computing devices date back much further. In 1968, engineer Alan Kay proposed the Dynabook, envisioning a lightweight, portable device for reading and writing.
