your turn, marvel au
Hiyori is a mutant. She's able to leave behind a momentary solid but stationary afterimage of herself, which can absorb an impact before shattering. In the process of dropping this afterimage, her real self gets thrown a good few feet back as a protection measure.
Because Hiyori's life was pretty easy, she didn't even realize she had this ability at first. It wasn't until she saved a boy crossing the street from an oncoming truck that the ability finally kicked into gear, throwing both Hiyori and the boy out of the way, and leaving a crumbling form to take the hit from the bus, and terrify her friends
The boy she saved also had powers of his own-- but he was far more interested in Hiyori's to tell her much else about himself. Hiyori was in a dazed panic after the ordeal, and the shock led to her passing out, and this sounds all painfully familiar I'm aware. She woke up in her family's hospital, and was held there for the night to run more tests and make sure she was alright. Hiyori swears the boy visited her that night, but it was all kinda blurry so she can't exactly remember what he told her.
Her friends and family all took it pretty well, considering. Her abilities of course, stayed a secret and Hiyori was told by her father to just try and forget about them. After all, what need would she have for those kinds of powers?
Hiyori kept practicing in secret, however-- learning how to not let the blast set her off balance and how to use it to her aid. After all, she's still a closet martial arts fan and it was all fun and games to her, picturing herself in the ring with that sort of advantage. She'd also like to find that boy again, and ask him more questions-- but her friends swear there was no one else there.
