I had a coworker in Virginia whose family took falconing lessons (I guess that’s what you’d call them?) as a Thanksgiving break activity, sooooo … possible Valentine’s Day gift?

Circa...
@tacosaysroar tagged me to see how much my life has changed …
She picked the year 2002. I think she was being polite. 1992 would’ve been a much bigger change, but she must’ve figured I was too young to remember. ;)
CAR
Then: a “heather mist” 1994 Honda Accord. My third car after a 1980 Honda Civic and a 1988 Honda CRX (rocket car).
Now: a “wilderness green” 2015 Subaru Outback (outdoorsy & practical, like me I guess)
JOB
Then: VP of Account Services at a Boston-area ad agency
Now: Sr Director of Marketing at a rather large ice cream (and coffee) company
AGE
Then - 32
Now - 47
LIVED
Then: In the “prettiest town in Massachusetts”
Now: same exact location, only I call it outerbostonia now. We also have a happy place up north. We’re never more than 5 minutes away from the ocean, lake or mountains.
PETS
Then: a little Tibetan Terrier rescue named Lucy.
Now: a slightly bigger (and more skittish) collie/shepherd rescue named Kylie.
LOCAL PUB
Then: I remember them! But with a new house and our first baby, not much disposable income for pubbing.
Now: still not a lot of pub-time. I’d rather bring home some craft beers and binge-watch Netflix.
TV
Then: Friends, 24, CSI, Everybody Loves Raymond, West Wing, Red Sox on NESN
Now: Anything I can binge watch - Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Sons of Anarchy, Peaky Blinders, Better Call Saul, Sneaky Pete, Blacklist, Vikings, Man in the High Castle & Red Sox on NESN...
HAPPY
Then: Yes. I’m pretty upbeat and positive, plus totally low maintenance, so happy comes pretty easy. With a new house and new family, I was pretty happy about everything except money.
Now: Yes, even more so. Three times the fun now and I have fitness and photography to keep me busy on top of work and family. And the money thing becomes less of an issue every year. Another ten years and I may stop having panic attacks every time my wife hands me a bill (kidding. mostly.)
KIDS
Then: an infant son
Now: a high schooler, a middle schooler and one in elementary school. And that’s all there will ever be.
I’d love to hear from all of you. Consider yourself tagged, but only if you want to be.
Had a fun day in Seattle AND Tacoma with @tacosaysroar yesterday. Another successful Tumblr meet-up! We walked through Seattle Center, Rode the Ducks, walked through Pike Place Market (even got to see some fish throwing), ate lunch in Pioneer Square, went to the Sky View observatory in my office building, took the train to my house, drove to Tacoma with Scott and had a lovely dinner, took a quick tour of the Dale Chihuly Museum of Glass (it was free--picked a great night to wander by!) and saw some glass blowing, and went to Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Show at the Tacoma Comedy Club. We packed a lot into one gorgeous day. She’s such a lovely, fun person. I was so glad we had the opportunity to hang out!

HOW has this scandal not taken him down yet? How?!
It’s not getting much, or any, mainstream media attention, and Donald Trump appears to be immune to scandal. His supporters are “true believers” and even if he was convicted in a court of law of raping a 13-year old and threatening to kill her, they would just accuse the girl of being involved in a bogus conspiracy to bring down their white knight. Donald Trump supporters have diseased minds.
Assuming you're looking at this as a fresh start vs. just a regular relocation, what are you hoping to get out of the move to St. Pete?
I’m sort of looking at this move as a Complete Life Reset. I’ve lived in the same city for most of my life, and in the same house for the last 14 years. The climate here is just not for me anymore; I don’t mind some cold and snow, but the constant gray skies for six months of the year are literally killing me.
Being freelance allows me to move pretty much anywhere and still work, so it’s not like I’ll have to acclimate to a new job. Just having 99% of the things in my environment be new and not at all what I’m accustomed to will be a good catalyst for a “soul reboot,” if that makes sense.
3 Things
I was tagged by @christeenabean to list 3 little known facts about me. Thank you, lady!
1. Everyone knows how much I love music. But, the reality is that I have a really difficult time prioritizing which tasks need to be done first. My brain tends to take the last thing I thought of as the most important, which is often not the case. When I’m running around trying to do one project, I will see something that looks like it needs my immediate attention. SO, that thing bumps up to first priority. This can be quite problematic & overwhelming. However, when I put on some music, I instantly feel more calm & I go that nonverbal happy place (which is why I loved making candles for so many years) where I can just exist & take care of things without stressing what to do first. I just relax & do what I can as I move from room to room. (This is also the effect that marijuana edibles have on me.) Of course, I have daily lists to help me keep all of the important things in order, too.
2. After a lifetime of being loyal to brand names & believing deep inside that generics are lower quality, I have turned around. There are so many things that I buy now that are just the store brand. I still have a few things that I buy a particular brand of, but that’s because I’ve tried the others & made a decision based on my own experiences. It’s nice to be able to see past all of the advertising & take away it’s deeply ingrained, subliminal power over me. Having kids makes this sort of thing much more glaring & obvious, I think. But, maybe it’s also the great need to cut corners wherever possible.
3. Let’s see if I remember...I already wrote this out this morning & when I posted it was only the first paragraph :’( SO! Number 3 fact about me is that...Oh yeah! The state of my toenail polish says so much about how well I’m feeling & coping. Right now, my toenails haven’t had fresh paint in about 4-6 weeks. The simple fact that I can’t seem to find those 10 minutes (to make something that makes me feel pulled together a priority) means that I have probably not been doing many other simple things for myself. Like drinking enough water, taking my vitamins, putting on a quick swipe of makeup, remembering deodorant all of the time...yeah. Many days, just getting up, taking a shower, taking my meds & making sure everyone in my family has healthy food, clean clothes & a moderately clean place to live in is plenty to juggle. But, once I get some fresh paint on these toes, it’s a reminder that these seemingly unimportant details that are for me only are actually quite important for the quality of my day to day life.
Now to tag some people :D -- @mrsverges, @tacosaysroar, @thestressedoutyogi, @therightswipe, @mistermiserybox & @journeyofmyhappiness
I thought about you my entire layover! I knew I wouldn't have time though. I'm still thinking girls weekend at the beach house.
