Before creating Professor X and his X-Men, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created Tad Carter in the story "The Man in the Sky" segment of the comic anthology series Amazing Adult Fantasy 14# (cover date July, 1962). Tad's father had worked with radiation, which caused Tad to be a mutant. Tad found he could read minds and had telekinetic powers. He was persicuted by others for being a mutant. This issue was the penultimate comic of the series. The final issue would change the name to Amazing Fantasy, which introduced Spider-Man. Marvel would pick the title up again several decades later keeping with the same numbering. So, issue 15 was dated 1962 and issue 16 dated 1995.
