Nearly Found my Balls

My figurative balls, i mean, not literal ones. When i find actual balls that'll be a strange day for everyone involved. Anyhoo... i finally sucked up the courage to tell my 'boss' that her child is being mean to me. Genuinely. It sounds a bit pathetic, but when you spend 10 hours a day with a child glued to you the attitude starts to get a bit old.

Sidenote: Can i just take a moment to quote Wikipedia's guide to Au pairing?

'Au pairs can be expected to do a combination of child care and light housework duties. They are not responsible for housework that does not relate to the children’s or communal living areas that are kept tidy by all family members - the Au Pair is not a cleaning woman! The main aupair's duties are taking care of the children and entertaining them.'

hmm, interesting. If you carry on reading the article it states that they are not supposed to clean floors or make the parents bed... Intriguing... would it be rude for me to leave this page lying open somewhere??? I have to say, it's pretty fucking degrading having to scrub this family's floor and dust every surface in the house and be the main dish cleaner and the only person that uses the hoover. I hate it so, so much.

Uhhh i had no idea it would be like this. That i would feel like the cleaner, that i would sit and worry that that i'd left some surface untouched, that i'd missed a spot on the floor, that i'd run around the kitchen 5 times a day with the cloth to make sure a crumb hadn't mysteriously bounded out from underneath the kettle. This is not what being an au pair is about.

But i'm getting side tracked, the point is if you bottle up things that need to be said, the problem sits in a corner of the room watching you and judging your cowardly custard ways. Just spit it out, the awkward silence is worth the change that it could bring. Plus, you can walk away from the conversation but not your problem. So next time a child is mean to you, tell his Mum on him.
