Koroazu’s 7th single [ RESOLVE ] has been announced! It will be the Ending Theme Song for the anime “ バキ “ or Baki that will be airing on Netflix. It is scheduled to be released July 25th of this year.
Here is a translated message from Koroazu about Baki.
It's a series that I used to read as a child because my brother liked it, so to be able to sing a song for it really caught me by surprise, and I'm really looking forward to it! The lyrics reflects the deep love Kozue-chan has from his point of view, so I think this is a very heated song that perfectly fits the world of Baki!
Finally we’ve reached the end of the Nizista interview! With this done we’ll look into translating other current interviews or articles.
Phantom composition [I want to rear an otter]
The 14th and last song in the album is [ころあるき (Koro Aruki)]. The title of this song isn’t something you’d expect from the person themself to think up since it’s very jokeful.
Tadokoro That’s what I like about it (lol). I really like 忘れんねよ(Wasurenneyo)-san. To say it’s jokingly serious, in turn it turns into something fancy and gives it a unique impression is what I like about it.
How was it when you first received the song?
Tadokoro It felt so much like me that I got embarrassed. But, it’s a very Wasurenneyo-like song, so it was an amazing song that felt a little nostalgic and tear jerking. When I listened to Shibata-san singing the acoustic version of the song in the demo version after I received it, as a fan it really moved me, making me think “I want to listen to this forever!” (lol). It’s a song fitting as the last song of the album, a song that can reach into people’s hearts. The lyrics are very close to reality, and the title [Koro Aruki] stands out with its uniqueness, it’s amazing!
The lyrics are very Shibata-like, being very straightforward with its meaning isn’t it.
Tadokoro That’s right. I really like the bare feeling from Wasurenneyo-san, so it makes me very happy.
In the other songs, there are certain phrases that Tadokoro-san is aware of, but this one is just interesting as it is.
Tadokoro It’s conversely quite refreshing (lol). In a previous meeting, he listened to my singing and said “I’ll try making this,” was how this song was made. But, at the start when we were talking, we actually decided on the title [かわうそ飼いたい (I want to rear an otter)] (lol).
Otter!?
Tadokoro When he asked me “What is your favourite animal?”, I replied “Cats and otters”, then he said “Then, [I want to rear an otter] could be the title” was how it went. When I thought that I could make a song like that, it turned out to be [Koro Aruki] (lol).
Who knows, there’s a possibility that your next song could be [I want to rear an otter].
Tadokoro With pleasure!! (lol).
If he were to make another song for me, I will be very grateful!
Because you like Wasurenneyo-san is why it managed to turn into reality.
Tadokoro That’s right. A staff member who knew him helped make the offer for me. It was a love call (lol). Wasurenneyo-san is very straight to the point, or rather they show off all their negative sides too, and I like that undecorated look they carry with them. That way of living is in turn, cool. Without putting on a mask, letting out everything, including the dark and dirty feelings, shouting out as you are is a wonderful thing.
Just like that, do you normally let out your feelings as they are?
Tadokoro Not really I think. Maybe with friends I trust, but even then I don’t think they like listening to gloomy stories, so I try to not let it out too often.
There has been more talk about “growth”, I think that there’s a difference between growth as an actress and growth as a person. Is there anything about yourself that you feel has grown physically or mentally?
Tadokoro I think I’ve gotten better at taking in criticism. Or maybe my feelings have just become numb? (lol).
If I were to tweak your words, I’d say your spirit of breaking through/ability to ignore has gotten better.
Tadokoro That’s right. In a way, I’ve become able to freeze my feelings from certain things. Because it’ll be really agonizing if I were to take everything in.
It’s not just an on off kind of thing, but you’ve become able to let out your full power even when you’re on.
Tadokoro That’s what I think.
That’s along the lines what’s in [そう上手くいかないものです。 (Sou Umaku Ikanai Mono Desu.)] isn’t it.
Tadokoro That’s exactly it. Come to think of it, I’ve started crying a lot less too. But that makes me kind of sad. In the past I used to cry at almost anything. . . . . . Maybe it’s because I’ve become an adult?
Sad tears, frustrated tears, happy tears, did you cry out all of them?
Tadokoro I cried all of them. I didn’t know any other way but crying, express everything with “crying” was what I thought, but recently the tears have not been coming. But I still do cry at movies and television shows (lol).
To invoke the thought that “Koroazu’s live is not a miss/failure”
Apart from the new songs, you played the guitar for [スーパースタールーザー(Super Star Loser)] in this time’s recording. How did the recording go?
Tadokoro The way of recording it was completely different from a singing recording and that really surprised me. The experience of only having the amp in the recording booth while I was outside playing was a new thing for me. But, I never thought the day that I would play a guitar, what more have it on a CD would ever come, so it was a very wonderful experience.
Playing the guitar alongside the original guitarist, Yamamoto Yohske-san arranged the piece to make it sound even better.
Tadokoro Yeah. It became a lot more flavorful. In a previous tour, it was my first time (playing the guitar) and it was right as I made my appearance on stage (lol).
The practice must have been hard for it, how was it?
Tadokoro Yamamoto Yohske-san was teaching me how to play the guitar, and during rehearsals I would receive advice from my fellow band members as well.
Hearing the name again, you had an amazing person as a teacher didn’t you.
Tadokoro It was super luxurious. Furthermore, he was super kind and even complimented me. The first time I played the guitar on stage was on [アニメ紅白歌合戦 (Anime Kouhaku Uta Gassen)] where I collaborated with KEYTALK-san. Then, the tour was my first time playing the guitar whilst singing on stage and it was really difficult. At first I couldn’t concentrate on singing at all and was worried if it’ll turn out alright, but with everyone’s cooperation and rehearsing over and over again, the final result managed to turn out fine.
Is there a possibility that we’ll see the guitar again?
Tadokoro Well~, what should I do (lol). I don’t think I can show any more than that, because I’ve shown all that I can do.
If you say it like that, I’ll be expecting you to play the guitar in your upcoming tour
Tadokoro Ahahahah! (Laughing while evading the question)
You have showed another level of growth through this time’s album, which can be heard in the music as well. What do you think you’ll do from now on to show us another plus alpha (Phrase used by Japanese like the meaning ‘level up’)?
Tadokoro Rather than to do something different, I want to sing more songs like this time’s, where a lot of emotions are incorporated into the songs. Of course, I also want to extend and better my singing skills.
You have an upcoming live tour scheduled for the end of the year. What kind of being would you like the “Tadokoro Azusa on stage” to be?
Tadokoro Let me see. . . . . . I want to be a person that can make people think “It’ll definitely be fun”. I’ll be happy if they think “Koroazu’s live is not a miss/failure”.
As expected, the feelings of “I want everyone to be having fun” is strong isn’t it. In the beginning we also talked about how a Tadokorock that “makes people smile” is also good.
Tadokoro No matter they may be, “I want to move their heart” is what I think. I want them to have fun to the fun songs, become sad on the sad songs. But I don’t want it to be a forced thing, so I want everyone to be able to enjoy the albums and lives in the way that they like.

I want to answer to the challenge from Q-MHz
Among your new songs, three of them were handled by Q-MHz. First off, the first song [涙one of them (Namida one of them)] is a high tension song isn’t it.
Tadokoro It is undoubtedly fitting as the first song. The last phrase of the song is the album’s title [So What?] too. There was laughter after that, but this was really hard to do. Like a person that likes to laugh at people, I was told to make it feel like I was making fun of other people and I had to challenge it many times.
That definitely has the [So What?] feel to it. After creating this time’s album, do you find yourself feeling that way in your day to day life now?
Tadokoro That’s…….right. I think that I have it when the time is right. Because I’m quite obstinate, when something I cannot yield happens, I’ll have feelings like [So, what about it?]. It’s not a feeling that I don’t have at all.
From now on, do you want to become a [So What?] kind of Tadokoro Azusa?
Tadokoro As a human that often stands in front of other people, I think that a part like that is necessary to have, I think that it is good to have the will to go through with your intentions. I want to be able to properly hold on to the things I cannot yield.
The melody and performance for [Pajama KINGDOM] leaves a pretty deep impression.
Tadokoro Q-MHz made this with a [Go Go Song] image in mind. I didn’t know a thing about [Go Go], so when Tashiro (Tomokazu)-san came to the recording, he showed it to me saying [This is Go Go] (lol).
I also really like the image of a girl resting in her room that the lyrics have. It’s like she is the king/queen of the room, saying [If love was subtitles, it will be something stupid wouldn’t it], while having her legs outstretched in the air as she rolls around on her bed, kind of feeling is cute. A little mischievous, hard to deal with girl, but her cuteness turned into wonderful lyrics, is what I think.
How did it feel singing a cute song like that?
Tadokoro I sang it with the image of that girl. I think that there is a part of me that is like that, so I exaggerated that and sang while playing around with the arrangement and adding in timbres.
So you were also imagining yourself playing around.
Tadokoro But it’s still hard for me to do that (lol). I cannot play without thinking that I am playing.
The other Q-MHz song is [Aiming for Utopia]. What kind of song is this?
Tadokoro It’s a stadium rock song that everyone can sing along to. The song is full of parts where everyone can sing along, so I think I will be singing this song a lot at lives (lol).
What about the contents of the song?
Tadokoro The protagonist for this song is a little devilish and I think that’s kind of cute. It has a [Come over here] kind of provocative-like feeling.
You’re now able to make provocative expressions in recent stages too can’t you…..apart from the usual you.
Tadokoro I thought that I would work hard and aim to be a small devil, but I can’t keep up (lol).
Including the existing songs, the number of your songs that were made by Q-MHz have increased considerably. Was there anything that changed after recording with them that many times?
Tadokoro The songs themselves have evolved, I’m challenging harder and even more difficult things. I’m very happy that they thought [Let’s have Tadokoro Azusa try this], and I want to answer/respond to it. I also learn a lot despite being busy during recordings. Not only in the technical aspect, but things like the what length of a sound would be good, they give directions to even the small, detailed parts, so I think that I was able to grow through this album.
So, does this mean that the difficulty will further increase in the future?
Tadokoro It would be nice if that were the case. I will do my best so that they will think that I can do (Songs with higher difficulty) it!
I wanted to sing songs that are filled with emotions
Please tell me about the lead song, [Story Teller].
Tadokoro It’s a really straight forward rock song with a subtle melancholic melodies, the lyrics will also touch your heart when you listen to it. The song is saying something along the lines of [Everything that has happened up to now is not useless/pointless], it’s a song that can give you a push on your back when you’re lost.
The lyrics, composition and arrangement were handled by Shota Horie-san. What are your impressions on Horie-san’s song?
Tadokoro It’s really refreshing and has a youthful feeling, I very much like the realistic aspect of the song.
The first song you received from Horie-san was?
Tadokoro It’s [Straight Forward] (The coupling song for the single “君との約束を数えよう(Kimi to no Yakusoku o Kazeyou)”). Even then when I heard the demo for the song, I thought [This is youth!]. It felt like all my memories from my high school days came rushing back to me, and it was also my first time composing lyrics.
In the Music Video that was uploaded on YouTube, there was a duo comic act you did with Horie-san…… no there was a talk too, right.
Tadokoro (lol). There was no script so it couldn’t be helped.
Are you usually like that?
Tadokoro That recording was actually the first time that I have properly talked to Horie-san. That was also my first time hearing about Horie-san’s impressions and thoughts on me. But when I received these lyrics, I felt like the message of the song was affirming the activities I’ve done so far saying, [There is definitely a wonderful future waiting for me from here on out], and that made me happy.
What were your thoughts when you saw the completed Music Video?
Tadokoro The shoot was taken in a dim/darkly lit ruins so I didn’t know how the completed work would look like, but it became really refreshing (lol). I thought it would have a more wild feeling but it turned out refreshing, and the heat was conveyed too so the Music Video turned out to look really good.
I would like to further ask about the new songs. Continuing with the fourth song, it’s [Gimme Shelter・Brightness].
Tadokoro [Gimme Shelter・Brightness] is a song that requires technique, so it was really hard. The speed of the song is fast, and I had to roll my tongue which made me go [Hii~]. It’s my first time rolling my tongue in one of my songs.
Could you roll your tongue since you were young?
Tadokoro A long time ago, there was a CM for a gum that had tongue rolling in it that became popular. It was then that I started practicing it with everyone else. That’s how I learned (lol). I couldn’t roll my tongue at first, but I was able to after practicing.
That leads/connects us back to what we were talking about before about the contents of [Story Teller].
Tadokoro That’s really true. There’s nothing that is useless/pointless.
[Crying] is another song that has a different atmosphere.
Tadokoro This was a song that I requested, [I want to sing a song that’s like murmuring and singing in the rain while crying, and that is filled with emotions] and it was made for me.
It’s like fluctuating emotions, or like the emotions burst out part way isn’t it. I get the impression that this is a song that was sung with a lot of emotions.
Tadokoro That is exactly the type of song that I wanted to sing. I thought that it would be nice to expand on the part of my singing with emotions, this time I requested for a song that couldn’t be saved, and had a gloomy conclusion. The other songs were more or less songs that showed hope, but this is the only song that couldn’t be saved until the end, it was called the ‘Despair Song’ (lol).
So you wanted to sing a song that had the feelings of despair in it.
Tadokoro That’s right. So I did the recording in a frazzled and disheartened manner (lol). It tired me out both physically and mentally.
How was [僕は空を飛べない (I cannot fly in the sky)]?
Tadokoro It’s a medium-tempo song that was created by Tabuchi Tomoya-san (UNISON SQUARE GARDEN), it’s a song about the time I wrecked my throat during my tour.
TL Note: Koroazu had her Dilemma Tour in Spring of 2017 and had to postpone several performances due to a throat illness.
The thing that you remember from that time as you are singing this song is?
Tadokoro To be precise, I was told, [That is what it actually means] only after the recording was over. So, during the recording I had vague thoughts of, [This really did happen]. I only understood that it was indeed those things after I was done with the recording.
It is also a song that you sing from all the experiences you’ve been through, be it good or bad, right.
Tadokoro That’s right. There really was so many things that happened……
Apologies for the hiatus, we’ll get content rolling again ASAP
Here’s Part 3 of the Nizista Interview. Read on!
Real life words and precious memories were put into the lyrics
You composed the lyrics for two songs in this time’s album. [そう上手くいかないものです(Sou Umaku Ikanai Monodesu.)] has quite an impact from just the title, did you think this up yourself?
Tadokoro The title was decided after the recording where we had everyone do a vote, and that’s how we decided on this (lol).
You’ve talked about how hard it is to compose lyrics before. How was it for this song?
Tadokoro The title was decided after the recording where we had everyone do a vote, and that’s how we decided on this (lol).
You’ve talked about how hard it is to compose lyrics before. How was it for this song?
Tadokoro During they key check for this song, the lyrics were still in the temporary/provisional stage, it felt like I was just scribbling out the lyrics. [How is this?] [If this isn’t good then I don’t think I want to write anymore] was what I was feeling, but then [This is good. We’ll go with this direction for the song] was what they said to me. So, this was the quickest lyrics that I’ve ever done (lol). Usually I would be really troubled and pondering a lot while writing, but I scribbled this out so I’m still nervous wondering if it’s okay (lol).
Rather than as an artist, you wrote the lyrics as the usual Tadokoro Azusa.
Tadokoro That was what is was like. I just wrote what I wanted to say.
But if we were to hide the staff credits, the song that will often be questioned, “Who’s the lyrics composer?” might be this song (lol).
Tadokoro Because the real intentions are also there (lol). The contents of the song had a, “Is it okay if we take a little break?” kind of feeling, so we called it the “break song”.
The concept of “taking a break” is not just backward facing/negative, but the lyrics also have a forward-facing/positive meaning doesn’t it.
Tadokoro That’s right. “Take a break first, then start working hard again”, are actual words that I use. Even when I’m down and think that I can’t go on, I don’t want to quit, so I’ll first take a break then continue moving forward.
If it was your own words, then does that mean the last phrase is something you want everyone to say to you?
Tadokoro That’s right. Something like when everything has ended without any happenings. To be told, “You’ve worked hard”, I want to be complimented, is what this song is.
(TL Note: The last phrase in the song is [お疲れさん よく頑張った] which means [Thank you for your hard work, you worked hard])
Please tell me about the lyrics of [I can’t live without you.] too.
Tadokoro It was my first time composing lyrics for a ballad. Honestly……this song, the cat that I raised in my parent’s house (Neko-chin) passed away, so I wrote the lyrics based on that.
Eh!?
Tadokoro I couldn’t bring myself to talk about it. So I thought that I would put it into the lyrics and tell everyone that way. She has always been with me for 21 years, so it was the most shocking incident that happened in my life. I thought that I wanted to leave something behind for her, so I’m very grateful to have been allowed to write the lyrics about it.
Listening to that, I finally understood the true meaning behind the song’s title
Tadokoro That’s right. Because I couldn’t write about it on things like my blog, so with singing…….. I thought that I would have to talk about it someday.
Wasn’t it hard during the recording?
Tadokoro The Director understood the situation, so he told me, “It’s okay if your feelings start to waver a little”. (With the wavering feelings) I sang the song from start to finish in one take, was how we recorded the song, we recorded it several times.
Did you only re-record specific parts of the song?
Tadokoro That’s right. Other than that, I was asked to prioritize the emotional aspect of the song. There are definitely parts where my feelings started to waver, but they told me that it was fine that way.
After listening to that story, my impressions of the song have changed.
Tadokoro It’s heavy isn’t it (forced smile). It felt like the atmosphere at a funeral after the recording was over, but I’m very grateful to have been given the chance to sing about it like this.
Tadokoro Azusa is a mob-like character!?
Both songs that you wrote lyrics for were not hard rock styled songs. As you’re known as a rock artist, is there a change in your feelings when you singing a song that gets you heated up?
Tadokoro [そう上手くいかないものです(Sou Umaku Ikanai Monodesu.)] is a calm rock that has a realistic feeling, so I can sing it without forcing myself. For the very cool songs, I awaken the powerful part in me and sing with all the power I have, for ballads I sing gently. But, it’s all real feelings.
The core of the song that penetrates through the melody is [Reality/Real feelings] isn’t it.
Tadokoro That’s right. [The cool side within me] [The gentle side within me] [The usual energetic me], and [The sorrow in me]…… I want to let out all those things that are inside me.
Shifting the focus, I want to ask about this time’s lead song’s title. If there was the story’s protagonist “Tadokoro Azusa”, what kind of person do you think the character will be?
Tadokoro A good-for-nothing, unattractive, mob-like person (lol). Since the character’s impression is too shallow, I think it’s better to rethink the character’s image. Not suitable as the protagonist, lacking punch, the character too mob-like (lol).
You didn’t have to go that far (lol). Then, aside from the cool protagonist “Tadokoro Azusa”, if there was another child “KoroAzu”, what kind of story will it end up being?
Tadokoro How would it be indeed. She won’t be able to be cool, she also can’t be cute….. As expected, she’ll be a half-assed character (lol).
This isn’t a psychological quiz, I just wanted to ask about your objective thoughts…
Tadokoro I’m a mob-like human (lol). I devote myself to playing a role that aims to not be an obstacle to anyone.
You’re definitely not a mob! What kind of protagonist would you like to make “Tadokoro Azusa” into from here on?
Tadokoro It would be nice if I will be able to say “It was a good life” as a result. I don’t like peacefulness/quietness, but I think peacefulness/quietness is also kind of nice (lol). Even if various things were to happen, I will be happy if I lived a good life as a result of it.
TL Note: Koroazu tends to have a very pessimistic outlook and puts herself down often.
Tadokoro-san has the catchphrase “Bright, cheerful and backward facing”, personality-wise you are backward facing/negative but when faced with a challenge, you are the type to do it aren’t you.
Tadokoro That’s right. I will unintentionally do it. I don’t really understand that part of myself either. I would suddenly stand out, I really don’t get it (lol).
Here’s Part 2 of the Nizista interview. Please enjoy!
I can be strong when singing
You’ve recently been starting to show off your ‘coolness’ as an artist. How was it showing both your cool side and your usual self in this time’s shoot?
Tadokoro It was quite interesting to see the pictures turn out totally different even when they were taken at the same location. For example, the pictures taken by the window had a natural lighting and sunny feel to it, but once the lighting was changed it looked like there was a storm. I didn’t think that it would be able to change that much.
Which part of the pictures taken during the shoot did you feel that, “This is like me”?
Tadokoro The natural pictures felt like the usual me, but the cool pictures that were taken made me think that this isn’t me (lol).
Not only in pictures but even in real life, I think that there is a difference from when you act cool compared to the usual you. What kind of consciousness/sentience does the “Tadokorock” Tadokoro Azusa carry with her?
Tadokoro When singing, to become one with the feelings of that song, it becomes the strength I have only at that time. It’s not that I’m forcing myself, but the help I get from the song turns into the strength I use in my singing.
So the way of remembering your songs/lives/performances, is your singing?
Tadokoro That’s right. Of course, I also take in the feelings from the outfit and makeup, but all in all I think it’s the song or the singing itself that is the most important.
On the other hand, how are you normally?
Tadokoro Usually, I’m often told that I would be daydreaming a lot (lol).
Does that happen at home and during break times at work too?
Tadokoro Yes. The other day, when my friend came over to my house, she said to me, “Why is it that you have this [Where am I?] face even though you are in your own house?” (lol). I don’t really know it myself, but I apparently make that kind of face…….
Are you not able to feel relaxed at home?
Tadokoro No no, I feel totally relaxed. But, I think that my relaxed face looks like that to other people. I’m very often told, “You’re in your own home you know~”. I think that’s just how I am when I feel relaxed? (lol)
Do you not have a switch for when you return home?
Tadokoro I do have a switch for when I’m checking my scripts, or rather I become focused. But other than that, it’s mostly the relaxed me (lol).
The artist Tadokoro Azusa and the Tadokoro Azusa at home, and I would also assume that you have another face for when you are acting, what kind of Tadokoro Azusa would that be?
Tadokoro Similar to how the feelings change with the song, when I’m acting the feelings differ based on the character I’m acting as. Because all of that is still me, I wouldn’t generalize it like, “This is Tadokoro Azusa”.
The correct answer to “Tadokorock” is to provide the laughter/smiles
In your acting career, please tell me about a recent show that has left a deep impression in you.
Tadokoro It’s [What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?] (SukaSuka). The character that I voiced, Chtholly had a sad ending and that left me with a pained heart. Because I was with her throughout the whole recording, the feelings we shared kept growing and it made my chest feel more and more strained. It really felt like Chtholly was there during the recording. Also, the casts and characters for this show are quite closely linked together, and I got to get close with Okada Hikari who voices Elq.
You also sang the opening theme song for this show, [DEAREST DROP]. Do you use the growth you get from being a voice actress in your artist career?
Tadokoro That’s right. The way I face songs, and the way I face roles, I think that they are slowly becoming a little similar to each other.
If it’s like that, did you think that “Songs are songs” back when you first started as an artist?
Tadokoro I’ve always been told that “Singing and acting can communicate”, but I honestly never really understood or realized that. Aside from character songs, I would sing the songs (not acting) as songs, and didn’t know what to think of it. But I feel like I’ve been able to connect them together recently.
Originally, are you the type to look at the songs from the protagonist’s view? Or are you the type that looks at it from a third party’s perspective?
Tadokoro In the case that the protagonist is very different from me, I would probably look at it from a third party’s perspective, but recently I’ve been able to completely immerse myself in the role and sing. Because I have a lot of strong/confident songs, I would assume the role of a domineering elder woman and have fun singing like that.
As an artist, you continue to show more and more of the “Tadokorock” world, this is thanks to the base you have as an actress and your growth from it, right.
Tadokoro It would be nice if that were the case (lol). I would be happy if both activities are a positive.
The word “Tadokorock” has started to be your label, but the word itself wasn’t with you when you first started out. How does it feel now that you’ve gradually become familiar with the word?
Tadokoro I still find the word “Tadokorock” interesting to this day (lol). I don’t know the reason myself. But I think that the “Tadokorock” that is slightly interesting and is used in ‘tsukkomis’ is fine.
(TL Note: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_owarai_terms for info on tsukkomi)
It’s okay to use it in tsukkomis?
Tadokoro It’s totally fine. I’m not the type of rock that is particular about appearance, but more of a rock that is fine looking pathetic/pitiable, because I like rock without decorations. So, I want to sing those type of songs, the people that I can make smile are the correct answers. Conversely, a “Tadokorock” (that only looks good) admiration kind of thing is something I wouldn’t want (lol). A more muddled up feeling would be better.
Because it’s a rock that has the usual Tadokoro-san implemented into it as well, is what you’re saying.
Tadokoro That’s right. If I can’t do something properly, or when negative emotions well up inside of me, I spit them out so it doesn’t necessarily have to look cool or anything like that. That’s what I think.
