Virgil Manor sits on the edge of town square, festering in a dark pocket of superstition and paranoia. A pile of chipped bricks, wood and plaster all glued together to form an irregular, slanted rectangle that looms over Blue Haven. The white paint has faded, turned a murky grey, and shutters have almost rotted from a bright pink to a mouldy green. The rusted metal bars, bolted over the windows, do not make the sight any more appealing.
In 1910, Blue Haven was a trading port, and the mayor insisted on living in a house that was grand enough to look over at the sea. It took three years to build the manor, production briefly interrupted by a wave of civil unrest. Taxes were a pain back then too, the cost of living too expensive, and hunger plagued the little town. Civilians rallied and burned the homes of the less guarded, easily accessible aristocrats.
Starved and furious, scorned from the fire, a member of the aristocratic Kim family (his name scribbled out of every history book) stormed the Virgil Manor. He’d just heard his little brother’s cries, his mother wailing, pleading for help. He witnessed his father hurry back into the flaming house and the structure explode from the pressure. Motionless, he stood in the woods as the mob moved to the next house. They say the smoke burned his eyes black, poisoned him with a wrath worthy of destroying worlds.
↳ special thanks to my bestie momo ( @kookdiaries ) for making this beautiful banner for me on such short notice. it is so pretty and i really appreciate all your hard work. thank you love 💕
Welcome to Taecember!
I am 18 days late and barely alive but we made it. I really thought I was going to be able to do so much this month to celebrate Taehyung’s birthday the way he deserves but I got sick so suddenly and it took ages to get better. So, though I am late, allow me to start from the beginning—
I can’t remember when I got into kpop, but I know for a fact that it was because of BTS. I was in one of the worst depressions of my life and had just cut out years worth of people I had once considered friends. So, I was very lonely. I found seven dorks who were as nerdy, passionate, and competitive as me and I never looked back. I fell down the rabbit-hole of “just names” before I was watching pre-debut content and crushing hard on none other than Mr. Renaissance: Kim Taehyung.
BTS was a layer of complex authenticity that I had not seen in any other artist before. Their music was a language of truth and encouraged others to recognise that within themselves as well. It seemed jarring at first, being that I was skilled in repressing emotions, but then it became comforting—like sharing kimbap with a friend in the parking lot of a convenience store on a cold winter night. When things would get hard, I would listen to their music. When I needed a laugh, I would watch RUN!BTS. When I needed an escape, I would watch Bon Voyage. And it truly felt that I was there with them, enjoying good music, competing in back-stabbing challenges (all in the name of fun) and exploring all these new places. Suddenly, I wasn’t so lonely. I was heard and seen and, more than that, taken care of.
So, this December, I would like to dedicate my blog to Taehyung. I want to give years worth of love back to the person I found myself relating to and falling in love with the most throughout it all. I had hoped to have posted two Rotten Angelcake chapters by now and have some fun Saturday nights filled with “ask my muse” questions and steamy prompts. This, unfortunately, has not been the case. We have about two more weeks left though and I plan to make the most of them. If you would like to get involved through more than just reading fics, you can send pics or anything Taehyung related to me here. I will also be tracking the tag, #taecember 2022.
I really hope you join me for the rest of the month in celebrating Taehyung. I’m sorry I didn’t do a better job this year, but I hope the next brings more happiness and joy.
Happy Taecember!
