Summary: Y/N finally decides to tell her best friend, Taehyung, the truth. Before she has the chance to do so, he tells her something that hurts her more than she thought it would.

Author’s note:This was written loosely based on the song Fake Love. I love that song so much and it's so angsty and so is this and I was in my feels. Sorry for the run on sentence. Idk how long this will be but I'm expecting at least 4 or five parts. I hope you enjoy :D

Date: Today

Your movie night was ruined but that was the least of your worries considering that something so much more important was at stake. Shock and sadness were what you were feeling as you stood in your dimly lit living room, staring up at your best friend. Taehyung’s words were echoing in your head on repeat almost as if they were taunting you.

“I can’t do this anymore y/n. I just can’t.” His voice was soft and barely audible. 

You saw the words leave his lips and they penetrated your ears, but for some reason, they just didn’t register. In the years that you knew him, Taehyung always had a knack for impeccably ironic timing. This time though, it was on another level; you were finally going to confess, but that plan was ruined.

You kept looking up at Taehyung’s face trying to read his emotions, trying to understand if what you just heard was real. His eyes were closed which you knew was something that he did anytime he had something extremely difficult to say. Being such a deep and empathetic person, Taehyung always struggled with confrontation out of fear of hurting the other person and this time was no different. If there was one person on this planet that Taehyung never wanted to hurt, it was you.

You felt a pang deep in your chest when you saw his beautiful features contorted in pain as he tried to hold the dam in his eyes to prevent the tears that he knew were inevitable anyway. He let his hair grow out long again and you loved it, but it wasn't long enough to hide the tears that you saw brimming in the corners of his irresistible eyes.

Maybe your ears were deceiving you. Maybe your brain concocted his words in a failed attempt to fill the awkward silence that was now surrounding you and your best friend. At that moment, you started to question where it all went wrong. How could YOU have been so wrong about your own feelings this whole time and why did it take you so long to realize? This is not how it was supposed to turn out anyway. It’s not like what you guys had was real. All you wanted was to hurt Jaekyong and make him feel what you felt for the past 5 months. It wasn’t even your idea! It was Taehyung’s from the very beginning, so why did you feel like you were being broken up with all over again?

“What? Why?” were the only words that you could choke out in response and even they sounded like a squeak.

Taehyung opened his eyes as he tried to read your expression. He could have sworn that he heard your voice crack as if you were on the verge of tears. He quickly closed his eyes again determined to get everything off of his chest.

“Y/N-ah” you heard Taehyung say softly.

 “It was only supposed to be temporary, right?” you cut him off in an effort to console yourself and brush off your own bubbling emotions. 

Involuntarily, almost as if it was your brain’s cruel way of saying that you were doomed from the beginning, you flashback to 5 months ago when this where it all began.
