You know, Anon, Taemin hasn't been one to go around talking about Gaga. It makes perfect sense given the camp and theatricality and the calibre of her performances, and I'm glad he's feeling comfortable to share this in addition to talking about MJ. I was so hoping he might catch Sabrina Carpenter at the festival so that he could see the calibre of her performances too; she's mastered elevating pop performances to Broadway-level standards (not surprising given her pedigree).
As for the straight Taemin truthers. I mean, if that's the hill they want to die on when his performances and music are routinely queer, he's yapping about queer and queer-ally artists, and he's just HIM (hello we just saw the performance) then alright. As a queer person, I've learned there is no reason to argue with CIS hets over these things. Everyone is biased and has their viewpoint and not many hets can truly step into the shoes of a queer person. Plus, it's enough for me that his work is inherently queer — just like David Bowie's — and Taemin just spoke to Billboard about wanting to be on the level of Bowie where his name is synonymous with art.
Btw, if you ever come across performances of Lady Gaga at Annabel's in London, I highly recommend them. You used to be able to watch the whole thing (my ex and I did back and the day and WOW).
