i feel like dirk gently’s holistic detective agency and happy! take place in the same universe since they have the similar juxtaposed energy of wondrous imagination and various shades of depravity
and they feel especially connected because of the whole ‘dreams becoming reality’ theme present in dghda s2
like i would absolutely fucking love it if dirk gently crashed through my bedroom window and started messing up all my stuff and threw a jauntily mismatched outfit at me and said “you’re my new assistant and we have a case let’s GO!”
it has the same spontaneous energy of dr who but none of the past baggage i associate with dr who and that’s beautiful
a part of the current Dirk Gently case that’s really getting to me now is that a young boy in the 60s was dreaming of gay princes and literally hasn’t stopped
there’s a lot of lovely subtlety there
me when dghda first premiered: oh what's this? dirk gently's holistic detective agency? looks interesting. hm. done by the h2g2 dude? rad. i think i'll watch the first episode.
