Please pray for my unbelieving friends & family. And those who are on the edge of believing, and those who have appeared to walk away. They are resting very heavy on my heart tonight.

There is something so fascinating. So tasty. So juicy and intriguing. About the first nohecharei’s role reversal of sorts in the assassination attempt. All throughout the book, Cala is the softhearted one, seeking to provide comfort to Maia when he can (despite the “we can’t be friends” thing): a defensive position. Meanwhile, Beshelar is more stiff and wary, often scanning for threats against Maia—an offensive position. These traits of each are well-demonstrated in the scene in which Maia reveals his abuse at Setheris’ hands. Cala comes over to button Maia’s sleeve when he is shaky, and Beshelar expresses desire for Setheris to be punished.
In the end, they switch. Beshelar leaps in front of and on Maia to bodily protect him from Tethimar’s blade and take the hit himself (defensive move), and Cala strikes Tethimar down by killing him with a revethmaz (offensive move).
It’s so interesting that when it came right down to it they each changed their mode of fulfilling their duty to Maia. I don’t think it was conscious at all either, since it was such a fast thing. But just!!! Cala is willing to kill to defend his emperor (such a stunning thing from a character who has never shown violence before, despite the readers knowing his role is to guard Maia) and Beshelar is willing to lay down his life for his emperor without directly fighting the threat (it is very notable that he leapt in front of Maia instead of trying to attack Tethimar) and ultimately they will both protect Maia to the last breath—whether that breath is theirs or of the one who dares to attempt to hurt him. No matter what it takes.
I think it shows that they are each letting go of their preconceived ideas of what protecting the emperor should look like; that their preferred ways of doing things (according to their personalities) may not always serve the emperor best, and it is up to them to carry out their duty in the way each situation requires. Of course, they probably wouldn't think about it as becoming more flexible, since they both took the oath of the nohecharis. But it is one thing to take an oath and another to fulfill it, and they have grown over the course of the story along with Maia, adapting to their new life with him and their roles as his first nohecharei. <3
I woke up to the funniest comment on my pacific rim au fic this morning. Idk if y'all know, but my fic tags read something like this "im using the / tag bc they're drift compatible soul mates, but there's no romance specific content, but they're DRIFT COMPATIBLE SOULMATES, so I'm using the tag anyway"
And *still* some one comes to the latest chapter to complain about me using the the / tag and how I really shouldnt mislead readers, and should use the & tag instead.
Like, hun. With all the love... if you read those tags and proceeded to read the story, and still ended up feeling misled, I dunno what to tell you. I was pretty dang clear.
But it does make me wonder-- why would my PacRim au fic get this kind of feedback, when I can post a post-reveal/rift fic where they actively hate each other, with no sex or romance, tag it supercorp, and not get the same complaint? It's curious, and I want to say it's something akin to ace/aro erasure. Like.... people would rather accept a hate fic into their ranks of / supercorp, but exclude drift compatible soulmates?
I am open to discussion. I won't be changing the tags on the fic, but if anyone has insight, I'd be interested to chat either via DMs or asks.
Sorry if this is weird but if you get a question that is about a topic you can't/won't write about could you tag it as like "no answer" or something? It's nothing bad you've done and I totally understand and respect your boundaries. don't want to give my reason because don't want to sound like you're doing something wrong again but if you'd prefer a reason I can give it!
I will try to remember this, anon! Tags like this can sometimes be tough for me to keep in mind until I get in the habit, but I'll give it a shot!
why am i actually incapable of decent friendship wtf
.
IF SOMEONE DOES NOT WANT YOU, WALK. THE. FUCK. AWAY. WHO ARE YOU WASTING YOUR LIFE FOR???? THEM???? THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU. GO. LET GO.
Pretty serious prayer request: please pray for a man who works at my church. He was detained by ICE today. His wife is trying to find a lawyer to help, and they have two young kids. Please pray his wife can find a lawyer, that he will be released soon, and that he does not suffer while in detainment.
