Things that totally reminded me of the Winter Soldier and/or Marvel from The Gray Man:
“The guy’s got street cred” and “he’s a ghost” about Six, and referring to Six as the/an asset, were veryyyyy Winter Soldier-coded phrases or terms
Mention(s) of a guy floating in the Potomac (where one of the aircraft crashed down with Steve and Bucky in CA:TWS)
Lots of action scenes that were reminiscent of Marvel ones. Action scene on a plane, car chase with the police, action scene on the street with lots of shooting.
“Emotional memory has staying power.” This line immediately reminded me of Bucky remembering Steve.
The descriptions of the guys in the Sierra program made me think of the Winter Soldiers: “Reckless mystery men you send in when you can’t send anyone else.” “Assets were chosen for their skillset, lack of family. Identities were permanently destroyed, assassins with limited morality.”
The line “He hurts people because that’s who he is. That’s who you’re protecting.” totally reminded me of people questioning Steve defending Bucky in CA:CW.
The big ol' location titles were very CA:CW to me, lol.
Six using that bullet shield thing is of course a nod to the Captain America shield.
There was video footage of “dirty laundry,” which made me think of CA:CW and the incriminating evidence that Bucky killed Tony’s parents.
During the street shootings, there were multiple cars blown up and tumbling end over end, one of which was a black SUV—not unlike Nick Fury’s which met the same fate in CA:TWS.
A bunch of knife action, which naturally brings Bucky to mind (though Six himself didn’t do as much fighting with a knife)
The whole stabbing-the-knife-through-the-hand thing wouldn’t have worked on Bucky bc he has a metal arm, lol. (Though I think it might’ve been Six’s right hand…in which case it would’ve been bad for Bucky too.)
The two-on-one fight with Six and his companion (I never caught her name) against the specialized assassin guy reminded me of CA:CW. And of course the one-on-one fight with Six and Chris Evans’ character reminded me of CA:TWS XD bonus, it involved a knife!
Six escaping and everyone trying to find him made me think of CA:CW as well. Plus him being chased in general by people.
Other stuff I liked and/or noticed:
A bunch of the action/fighting scenes Court was in reminded me of Colt Seavers. Fighting in the plane and getting hit by the car (one of the first times where he rolled over the hood and smashed into the windshield) felt like stunts Colt could’ve done. The rescue/search mission for Fitzroy and Claire + the climbing out of the water scene also reminded me of Colt.
The Skittles, of course, reminded me of both Ryland Grace and Colt. And so did the music (that Claire was playing) + action scene(s) set to them.
Court (Six) babysitting :)
“I think you should get yourself cleaned up before taking pictures. Unless bloody and beaten is the kind of look you’re going for.” That’s a quote that felt like it could’ve come straight out of a Marvel movie, and I liked it. XD
“Extra ten million to the first guy to put a bullet in this Ken doll’s brain” LOL. I had to double check when The Gray Man came out, and I’m delighted that this Ken reference was made before Ryan Gosling was even cast in Barbie.
I totally would have been Suzanne freaking out about how much they were failing when Lloyd was having all his guys shooting up that park/the streets.
I liked Margaret Cahill; one of my fav parts with her was Six putting his hand on hers after she warned him about not asking after her health and her slapping it away XD
I was pleasantly surprised by Suzanne shooting Lloyd (I had thought it was going to be Six's companion whose name I don't remember). The ending and how everything turned out wasn’t all sappy, but I was content with it, and it was good variety to have a bittersweet-ish ending since I’ve been mostly into stories with happy endings lately. Of course, I still love those, but having some stories that don’t end neatly is good too.
Overall, a good watch! I enjoyed the Marvel vibes, and it was a solid action movie with some a handful of nice emotional notes along the way.
