Welcome! A guide on tagging in the mcyt fandom (2023 update)

Hello everybody! Welcome to mcytblr! A corner in Tumblr to discuss Minecraft youtubers/streamers. 

This fandom is quite large, and its topic might overlap with others, so tagging is essential! If you don’t believe me have an oversimplified graphic doodle (that by no means maps the entirety of mcytblr) to illustrate this point (very professional I know)

As you might see there are a lot of things related to Minecraft going around Tumblr and MCYTblr is a section of it that it also has subregions so here you can find some useful tags 

MlNECRAFT / MlNEBLR: to use only when talking about the game of Minecraft. This tag should be used for posts and fanart about the game itself. All the cute creeper drawings go here, same as asthetic buildings, building and redstone tutorials, theories about the mechanics, etc. 

Please avoid tags like minecraft youtubers/minecraft streamers/ philza minecraft/ kristin minecraft/ mumza minecraft/ minecraft championship since all of them have the word minecraft on them and will appear on the Minecraft tag. 

MCSM: used for minecraft story mode to prevent this content from flooding the Minecraft tag

MCYT / MCYTBLR: for all the minecraft youtuber/streamer content. This is the main tag for anything that has to do with the server or content creators you follow and enjoy! It is usually used as the general tag to use in case someone outside of mcyt is looking to block it. That’s why you will find content outside of Dream SMP in the MCYT tag, there are a lot of content creators and smps going around

MCC/ MCCHAMPIONSHIP: main tags used to talk about minecraft championship! The monthly event organized by Noxcrew and Scott Smajor! Please refrain from using minecraft championship as a tag because it contains the word minecraft and will appear in the minecraft only tag

DREAM SMP/ DSMP / DREAMSMPblr / DSMPblr: all of them are varations of the main tag to use when talking about Dream SMP and you don’t need to use all of them in your post if you don’t want to, is just to let you know this varations exist. (At the same time if you don’t want to see Dream SMP this are the tags to block and filter) 

ORGINS SMP/OSMP: are the main tag that should be used for the origins/hybrid SMP to prevent clogging the dsmp tags

HERMITCRAFT / HERMITBLR: the main tags used for the Hermitcraft server. There are other tags inside the fandom to use to further clasiffy content but in this general explanation is important to know that this tag is used by the fandom to talk about the Hermits so please only use it when talking about Hermitcraft

TRAFFICBLR: the main tag to discuss the life series! Different tags are also used for each season but all of them exist inside of this one

3RDLIFE/ 3RDLIFESMP/THIRDLIFESMP/ TRAFFICBLR: these are the main tags for the 3rd life smp! As many of its content creators overlap with hermitcraft it might be tempting to tag as hermitcraft as well but please! Don’t do that! They are separate things and the hc x 3rdlife tag exists for content that does involve both servers

LASTLIFESMP/LLSMP/TRAFFICBLR: these are the main tags for the last life smp. As it is the 3rdlifesmp second season you might be tempted to tag a post with both. Instead, I would recommend using the trafficblr tag that encompasses both seasons.

DOUBLELIFESMP/DLSMP/TRAFFICBLR: these are the main tags for the double life smp. As the third installment in the life series, it falls under the trafficblr umbrella

LIMITEDLIFESMP/LIMELIFESMP/TRAFFICBLR: these are the maintags for the limited life smp. As the fourth installment of the life series it falls under the trafficblr umbrella (there is some wonkiness with limlife tagging since llsmp is alredy last life so i’d suggest you look into it)

AFTERLIFESMP/ASMP: main tags used to talk about the afterlife smp

EMPIRESSMP/ESMP/EMPIRESBLR: main tags for the empires smp, division between season 1 and 2 exist but they aren't as overarching so I'd encourage you to explore

WitchcraftSMP/Witchcraft SMP/ WCSMP: main tags for the witchcraft smp

QSMP: really only option available for the smp and the goings in Quesadilla Island

Karmaland: the main tag for the karmaland server. Usually the number of the season gets added after the name (karmaland 4, karmaland 5) to talk about specific events in specific seasons

Tortillaland: the main tag for the tortillaland server. Usually followed by a 1 or 2 to distinguish seasons

RATS SMP/ SQUEAKSBLR: main tags used to talk about the rattastic rats smp

LIFESTEAL SMP/ LIFESTEALBLR/LSSMP: main tags for the Lifesteal smp

MCSR/MCSRBLR: maintags for the minecraft speedrunners. Usually used with HBG (housebuilding gang) tag as that smp does contain a ton of speedrunners but that's not always the case

OUTSIDERS SMP: main tag for the outsiders smp

EVOSMP/EVO SMP: maintag for the evo(lution)SMP

LEGACYSMP: this is the main tag used to talk about the Legacy SMP server. Is important to know this tag is used by the fandom to talk about the Legates so please only use it when talking about Legacy SMP

SHADY OAKS /SHADY OAKS SMP/ SOSMP /SHADY OAKS RETIRMENT SMP: are all tags used to talk about the Shady Oaks SMP and its happenings.

XLIFE/ XLIFE SMP: are the main tags to talk about the XLife SMP and its happenings. Please don’t use it unless the content you are posting is related to it

SMPLive/SMP Live/SMPL : All refer to the SMPLive server. 2019 fanbase used "SMPblr", but it was largely overrun by confused DSMP fans come 2020.

SMPEarth/ SMP Earth/ SMPE: all refer to the SMPEarth server

Mianite: main tag for the mianite server. There is some variations to distinguish seasons

Please don’t crosstag. Tumblr tags are for organizing, archiving and blocking content not for exposure. To give exposure to someone reblog their post, that way many more people will see it.

#420 - i do post weed/smoking on this blog I'm trying to tag it consistently if you want to block

#suggestive - tumblr kinda not really got rid of nsfw so this is my tag for revealing or nude posts

#cooking tag - I'm very into baking and am trying to get ideas. A lot of desserts and meals

#mems tag - (new) i majored in medieval and early modern studies so i love this shit

#crush thoughts - im a huge sap w/ romance so that tag is for pining uwu

#witchythings - witch/wiccan/pagan/spiritual ideas and tips

I think the filtering tags feature on Tumblr is an amazing thing that I wish other social media had. On Facebook I just have to unfriend people, but on Tumblr? I just filter tags, and all I see are your funny gifs, fangirling, and occasional tick tock videos of cats.

Unless you don't tag. Then I have to unfollow you.

Sorry, but I'm just here for tv shows, movies, books, and writing. And not posting about social issues on Tumblr doesn't mean I don't care about those things. It just means this is one of my happy places. The few times I have broken that self-imposed rule (because I am human and fallible), I have regretted it.

So use tags, people. I know some post at the top of their blog "I don't tag," but just know that means some of us will be forced to unfollow you. Not because we don't care, but because we are trying to use social media in a healthy way.

Unless all you post are puppies and kittens. Those are usually safe 😘

I understand there is a new It movie out but some of us are seriously triggered by clowns. PLEASE if you’re going to post clowns or anything about It (especially with pics) TAG THEM. I have #clowns # it #it 2 #clowns #it chapter 2 filtered BUT IT DOESN’T WORK IF YOU DON’T TAG THE POSTS. I’m already being assaulted by the ads on my tv, I have these things filtered for a reason. I am a wreck for HOURS after seeing a picture, it takes a few seconds for you to tag, please just do it so I don’t have to be a mess who can’t sleep because you had to post a clown.

Another tagging PSA-

Ok so I’m now going to simplify my current tagging routine and that includes the Star Wars stuff. First of all, I’m retiring the tag “wifey watches other things.” Listen, we all know I don’t just watch BBC Sherlock by now ok lol. Also, when I post or reblog something related to another fandom/ship, I’ll be tagging more minimally. I will use a ship tag, I will use a movie tag, but I’m not going to tag all variations of the movie title or include words like spoilers. For instance (and since this is my current obsession) when reblogging things about The Rise of Skywalker, I will tag the ship and I will tag “tros.” And if I’m posting a fanfic I’m writing, I’m not using the main movie tag, I’d just be using the ship. Gonna make my life a whole heck of a lot easier and you’ll still be able to filter out “tros” tag or the tag “reylo” since that’s most of what I’m reblogging and posting about.

I’m going to change up my tagging. From now on I’ll be tagging asoiaf content with the tag #asoiaf. For Game of Thrones content I will use the tag #got for ts.
