QUESTIONS:

1. SP Love: Show some love for a self-published author.

I’m choosing two. Both of these women are extremely hard-working people.

The first one, of course, is the incomparable Jenna Moreci. Not only does she write amazing books but she takes time out of her day to help those of us who dream of being a published author. She also has a class on the Skillshare website all about building an author platform, which I have taken and highly recommend. On top of all that she takes care of her lovely goofball of a fiancé has some health issues that I won’t go into because it’s not my place if you want to know more Jenna has talked about it in a few of her videos. But what I will say is that he had to teach himself to walk again which I know is not easy.

The second is Kristen Martin. Kristen is about to publish her 4th book in 3 years. This latest book is a self-help book about achieving your goals. If self-help books aren’t your speed she has one completed trilogy called The Alpha Drive. She started a second series Shadow Crown which came out late last year. The second book in that series is set to come out later this year. In addition to these books, she also has a youtube channel where she e gives writing advice and where she will do day in the live/writing vlogs. She also has a podcast where she covers a verity of topics. She has created Webinars and on top of that, she is a writing coach.

2. Fantasy Love: Show some love for a fantasy novel/series that influenced/impacted you.

I'm only going to list one because if I listed all the ones that influenced me we’d be here all day lol. Like a lot of people, my first true fantasy novel was Harry Potter. It really sparked my love for both reading and writing fantasy.

3. True Love: A book with healthy relationships.

The relationship in Beneath a Mountain Moon by author Silver RavenWolf I think is an example of what most people consider a non-problematic relationship.

4. Representation: A book with all the diversity.

I think I’m making this question harder for me than it needs to be because of the word ALL. For whatever reason, I am trying to think of a book that is completely inclusive but there no one book that I know of like that. So I’m going to list two books that I love that are diverse. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire

5. Tobias: A book with a gentle warrior.

I am going with  Elizabeyta Belladonna from Beneath a Mountain Moon.

6. Deadly Beast: A monster of a character.

Dorothy and her lackeys from Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

7. Peaches: A book with hella symbology.

The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

8. Brutal Battles: A book with the best fight scenes.

I’m breaking the rules and using a TV show because I have yet to read the books and that is the Game of Thrones series, I won’t go into detail because of spoilers…

9. Not What it Seems: Crazy plot twist.

HMMM, there aren’t any plot twits that I haven’t seen coming that includes movies and tv shows.

10. Self Love: Talk about your book/WIP

I am writing a high fantasy series that incorporates many mythos but the main one that runs throughout the series is Nordic mythology. It is planned as a trilogy that follows Nafayja and Brynjar who are prophesized warriors who are destined to bring an end to the rule of Ragnifred an evil sorceress. Her favorite pass time is sucking the powers and lives out of her victims her all-time favorite though is children because she loves the look on the parent’s faces. Once she stole enough powers she took control of the kingdom and it has been under her rule for 200 years. Her goal is to bring about Ragnarok and she has almost enough power to do it. Once the universe is dead she will remake the universe as she sees fit. Throughout this first book, they are taught by Welgi, an old woman who is a friend of the God Odin, they learn to use their powers and how to fight. They also learn that prophecy is not as straightforward as they thought. Along their journey, they meet friends and their training is often put to the test.

So before we get started I want to give a little backstory of my current WIP…

My story is an Epic Fantasy with 3 main protagonists; Nafayja, Brynjar, and Astrid. The story is heavily inspired by Vikings and Nordic mythology. The story is set on an alternative “Earth” where science is replaced by magic.

Life in this world was somewhat peaceful, though you had your power grabs and uprisings but nothing compared to its current state. The land in which the story is set in is currently ruled over by a beautiful yet ruthless, bloodthirsty Queen. The Queen did not come by the throne by blood or marriage but by bloodshed and force…

On to the Questions:

Which character from a popular book/series would be a good best friend for your MC?

Nafayja tends to be an overachiever who is really hard on herself from time to time so I think she would get along really well with Hermione Granger though I can see the know-it-all mentality getting in the way.

Brynjar would get along really well with Michonne from The Walking Dead (Now I can only speak of the TV version of her because I have yet to read the graphic novels. Michonne has been through a lot but would still give her life to save the ones she loves and Brynjar would do the same without question. Both are strong very skilled fighters, they would easily go toe to toe with an adversary.

Astrid would get along really well with Tyrion Lannister. Though Astrid may not be able to match his wit, she makes up for it in determination and cunning. Both Astrid and Tyrion are viewed as an outcast, Tyrion because of his disability and Astrid because of her parentage.

Which character from a popular book/series would give your character an interesting fight? *****My answer might be seen as a slight spoiler for a part of A Darker Shade of Magic, though it is NOT the end*****

I think if they came up against Holland from A Darker Shade of Magic they would be caught off guard by his use of blood magic, but they would quickly recover and rip him limb from limb.

Which character from a popular book/series would make a good romantic interest for your MC?

Nafayja even though she has someone for the sake of this question I think she would really like Neville Longbottom especially the older Neville from the last Harry Potter book.

Brynjar even though he has someone for the sake of this question I think he would really like Vin from the Mistborn trilogy.

Astrid I think would really like Ky Markham from the Matched trilogy or Willow from the Buffy series.

Which world from a popular book or series would your MC feel comfortable getting thrown into?

I think all three would love Tamriel from Elder Scrolls series, though the outright prejudice some of the Nords have for the Elven people would not sit right with them in the least.

Which world from a popular book or series would your MC feel completely out of place in?

All three would hate the Harry Potter world because of the fact that every magical person walks on eggshells in order to keep magic a secret

If your MC had to be put into a Hogwarts house, which one would they be put into?

I think the sorting hat would have an issue choosing between two houses for each

Nafayja would be a Ravenclaw/Gryffindor Brynjar would be a Gryffindor/Hufflepuff Astrid would be a Slytherin/Gryffindor

If you could meet your MC in real life, what would you say to them?

I would have to apologize for the shit I am putting them through lol

Tag Tuesday: Books That Should Be Movies

This Tag Tuesday tag is a little different from my normal tags. Usually, I will find a tag somewhere either on a blog or youtube and answer the questions and be done with it. For this tag, I am taking inspiration from Gintare A.K.A. G over at Book Roast on youtube. She is doing “7 days of top 7” where each day she makes a video on a topic. Yesterday (Monday, December 4th. 2017) the topic was 7 books you feel should be movies. I am personally doing 9, so here are my 9 books or series I feel should be movies. These are in no particular order.

1.The Shades of Magic series by V. E. Schwab

Even though I am only halfway through the first book I am in love with everything about this series already. I feel the action and magic and storyline would make for an amazing trilogy of movies.

2.The Matched series by Ally Condie

Yes, I know the problems people have with this series but I still think that this series would make for an action-filled dystopian movie. Do I think it should be a trilogy? No, I think this series could do well as a standalone movie.

3.The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I think the historical and magical elements of this story would lend itself to an amazing movie.

4.Three Dark Crowns series by Kendare Blake

I am 20 pages into this book and I am itching to finish it. This is another story that I think would make for an amazing movie.

5.Beneath a mountain moon by Silver RavenWolf

And

6.Murder at Witches’ Bluff also by Silver RavenWolf

No, these books are not part of a series but they are amazing magical realism/urban fantasy books that weave a lot of new age and traditional pagan beliefs into the story.

7. Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige

I devoured the first three books in this series. I now own all four but I haven’t yet read the final book because I don’t want it to end. This series is amazing. I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan and have been my whole life. I started with the movies (yes I LOVE Return to Oz as well) now I am collecting the books so I can read them. But this series takes the original to a whole other level. The fight between good and evil is amazing the magic is amazing…. Out of all of these on this list this one I would LOVE to see on the big screen.

8.Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire

I think after a few more books or after this series is finished (which I kinda hope is never because I LOVE it) would make an amazing movie or miniseries. The stories are gripping and I think if they were made into movies it would reach a wider audience.

9.Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson

This is another one of those series that I’m only like 3 chapters in and I’m in love with it. This book, this world was made for movies. I would love to see this world come to life in the movies.

Tag Tuesday: 50 Random Facts About Me!

I wanted a fun way for you all to get to know me better so I came across several tags that I plan on doing over the next few weeks. I meant to have this up yesterday but things happen and time got away from me. So let’s kick this off with the 50 Random Facts About Me Tag!

I am 30 years old (about to be 31 on the 8th of December)

I have lived in Florida my whole life.

I HATE the heat with a passion mightier than a thousand suns.

I am a transgender woman.

The name Cass Cutting is a Pen Name.

I choose a Pen Name not to hide my identity but to simplify things with the publishing process because the process to change one’s name for gender identity reasons in the state of Florida is an expensive pain in the ass that can be made so much harder by the wrong judge.

I am a HUGE animal lover.

I am highly allergic to cats which only happened from the age of 23 onwards.

I personally own 2 dogs one RidgeBack Greyhound mix named Phoenix she is 11 and a 3-year-old mutt named Raven who I rescued from the pound. We assume that she is a mix of Pit, Lab, Jackrussle and maybe some more but those are the ones we can assume from looking at her.

I proudly call myself a mutt because I am lol I am Spanish, Cuban, Venezuelan, Native American, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and French that we know of.

I call my family the one bloodline United Nations because in addition to the above mentioned I also have family members who are of African, Japanese, Italian, Puerto Rican, and Mexican descent.

I knew I wanted to be an author from the time I learned that people actually wrote books, which was about the 4th grade.

I hate the term “Aspiring Writer” if you write you are a writer the term is “Aspiring Author” or “Aspiring Journalist” or something along those lines.

In the middle of my final year of 8th grade, we had to go meet with the counselors at the high school as an introduction thing. I was told that my life would amount to nothing and that it would take me 8 years to graduate from high school with a special diploma. That I would then have to go for my GED if I were lucky enough to get into the program then if by some stroke of luck I were able to pass the course I would never get into college and the only job I’d be able to get would be to sweep the sun off the sidewalks. needless to say, that counselor had his license revoked by the state of Florida and had a letter attached to his “file” stating he was unfit to work with children ever again.

I graduated on time with a “Normal Diploma” I wasn’t top of my class but I was 119 out 378 students.

I did go to college, however, I did not finish. Not because I was unable to keep up with the workload but because my father had was hit in his knee with a concrete pipe that broke loose from it chains as it was being lifted onto a truck. So I left school to help my family.

I suffer from depression (partly because of number 14)

I was a nationally ranked among the top high school Trombone players.

I was only playing for one year when I got that ranking.

I am a Graphic Artest (would be Graphic Designer if I had finished my course)

I am obsessed with Pin-up girls and Burlesque dancers.

I suffer from daily chronic migraines.

I was born with severe ear problems.

I had 13 surgeries on my ears alone from the age of 18 months to 16 years old.

I was told that there is a strong possibility that I could be completely deaf by the age of 50 because of the scar tissue build-up from the surgeries and the many infections I’ve had over my life.

I think that’s one of the reasons I love books so much because you don’t need to hear to enjoy them.

I have never been outside of the US though I would love to travel.

I have had the desire to move to Europe my whole life.

I am originally from Key West as is most of my family for many generations.

My grandfather on my fathers’ side arrested Ernest Hemmingway for being drunk and fighting a homeless man in the graveyard in Key West over who was going to get to drink from the hand-pumped well.

There were no available police vehicles at the time so he threw them both in the back of a garbage truck and road on the back to the precinct.

I’ve read 5 Hemmingway books and didn’t like any of them.

My grandmother on my mothers’ side gave up being a Prima Ballerina to have a family.

I don’t know that I could have done that.

My Great Grandfather on my mothers’ side played in a band with Desi Arnaz before he was famous.

I learned to type on Typewriters.

I have 2 working Vintage Typewriters a Royal from 1931 and a Royal from 1940.

I hate the fact that people think I’m a “hipster” because I like my Typewriters and like to dress in 1940’s style from time to time and like burlesque and pinup culture.

I read Harry Potter so many times that am having to replace my original copies because they are falling apart.

I have never read Twilight and only saw two movies because my ex-boyfriend wanted too. Why? BECAUSE VAMPIRES DONT FUCKING SPARKLE lol.

I would love to one day buy a bunch of land and go around to kill shelters and adopted all the dogs until I could re-home them.

I am 6’1″ (all the woman on my dad’s side are between 6’0″ and 6’7″)

I am terrified of heights (even step ladders)

I saw both It and 20 mins of Arachnophobia when I was 8-years old. I am scared shitless of spiders but not clowns.

Halloween is my favorite holiday followed closely by Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I am currently learning Swedish

I have plans to learn French, German, Latin, and Icelandic.

I would love to buy, restore and live in an old castle.

I think zombies could be a possibility one day

I have studied Buddhism, Hinduism, as well as ancient Norse, Greek, Romain, Celtic, Egyptian, and several Native American cultural religions. Though at this time I consider myself to be Agnostic.
