i dont know how else to explain it other than your etho design is just so etho i love it. am very curious abt the details of that one time where bdubs saw etho’s full face bc i feel like that could go a very angsty direction or a very different direction…

also the logs… etho held at gunpoint omg the lore is growing!!! loving your au so much and all of your art thank you so much for sharing it <3 im obsessed

There's a little thing about Etho and his past that no one knows about until later in the story. His scars and appearance in general are related to that, that's why he doesn't like being seen upclose and kinda avoids meetings, in hopes to avoid any unwanted questions along with them (even though asking too much about past is generally considered bad manners among all "satellite hermits" anyway; it takes a certain kind of person or life situation to choose to live like this and you never know how the person might feel about it).

However after everything comes to light, he's much more comfortable with showing himself to people who know what's up (mainly Bdubs, because he trusts him the most). Sometimes he'd take off the gloves or the hat, roll his sleeves up; even the mask that one time.

(Obviously many people have seen Etho's face, but Bdubs is the only one who saw it since it got scarred like this)

uh i don’t remember if you mentioned bases on Minecrea, but there are two “locations” worth studying(?). just wondering if the hermits built any bases and if they have, are you basing (heh) them off of a specific HC season?

Hi! If by two locations you mean Mt. Gate, here's the post about both of them. The hermits built all of the bases, in fact! They were the first people to officially set foot on this planet, so there was nothing on Minecrea before their arrival (or so it seems, at least). The map looks something like this:

Each base is a bit different, depending on the landscape and needs & work plans of the hermit. Some have (or are entirely built around) labs, some have garages for heavy machinery and bots, Central base has a huge landing pad for spaceships and a big warehouse, things like that. Doc, Pearl, Etho and Beef's bases have greenhouses (although Pearl and Doc use them for science, Beef for growing food, and Etho just kinda likes to sink into the greenery). Other than that, there are a lot of radio towers, observation spots and communal water generators scattered around.

Some of the placements are loooosely based off of the Hermitcraft seasons. The soup group being neighbours, Magical Mountain as a big neighbourhood (+ Scar, Grian and Mumbo specifically building their bases close to eachother each season), PET are all on the same path, Bdubs and Doc have bases on opposing hills and stare eachother down from a distance every morning (a bit from s7 I liked a lot :D ), Etho's immediate neighbours all are NHO, and so on. Other than that, maybe Beef's place being mainly a farm is a thing from s10? Not sure!

i wonder if there's job divisions between them. or were there so few people they just went around and did everything they could?

Hi! Thank you for the ask :]

The expedition consists of engineers, builders and scientists of all kinds. Nowadays there is some division: obviously the scientists are there to focus on science stuff, not to spend their precious time doing heavy lifting — they've got the rest of the gang to do the job. However the first couple of years were wildly busy, since literally everything had to be mapped out, established and made on the spot, before any kind of deeper scientific studies could take place. Livable bases, landing pads, water and oxygen generators, power generators, radio towers, basic roads... You name it. So yes, at that time it was exactly how you've described it! + everyone is responsible for expanding, upgrading and fixing their own stations and labs to this day. But they've got a very wide range of specialists available, so there's rarely a problem that couldn't be fixed with a radio call or a helping hand.

There are also two admins at play: social [Grian] and tech [Xisuma]. Their job is making sure everything works, be it vital systems or interactions within and outside of Minecrea. If there's any kind of problem, it's their responsibility to find a way to solve it and keep the wheels turning. It was all on Xisuma at first, but it quickly became apparent this was way too big of a task for a single man to handle, so when Grian (who had previously had an experience of leading the Europa-Jupiter II expedition for a bit) came along, they've split it.

And, of course, every scientist has their own field of research, as well as every builder or engineer has their own specific work plan. I plan on touching on it in character info posts individually, but here are some examples:

Cleo is a biologist who specializes on extraterrestrial zoology and does research & taxidermy on wildlife

Zed is a planetologist and studies basically anything he can lay his hands on

Cub is an astrophysicist observing HC-1304 (gas giant which Minecrea orbits) and its moons

Gladly!! Here are some generic notes from my notes app:

Kenny has been bitten for a while. People think he's immune, but for a long time only Cartman knows that he did turn into a zombie, he merely was able to keep most of his mind somehow.

=> Cartman feeds him his enemies

=> everyone assumed that Cartman and Kenny's big secret is that Kenny is immune, but in reality it's that Kenny isn't

Timmy is once again Dr. Timothy, a brilliant, but physically compromised scientist. Kyle is his research assistant.

=> the guys outside of Cartman's team want to get Kenny's DNA to Timmy as soon as they find out that he was bit and yet is still kicking somehow

=> Cartman doesn't like this for Cartman reasons:

1) runs a cult and can't afford people finding out Kenny is not actually their messiah

2) doesn't want a cure to exist anyway, because he doesn't want things to go back to how they used to be

Tweek and Craig start as a part of Cartman's team. Because they are a gay couple, one of them has to be killed off by the laws of popular media (bury your gays™)

=> Craig gets bitten by a zombie

=> Tweek desperately hopes that it's not too late and together with Clyde helps Stan and Kyle kidnap Kenny to make progress on the cure, but goes on a villain arc when he learns that

1) Kenny is not immune and there's no hope for Craig

2) Cartman lied to him

3) Stan and Kyle used him and didn't bother to tell him the truth when they found out either

=> Tweek goes rogue, turning against literally every existing faction in the game. Clyde gets scared and tells everything to Cartman. Cartman is pissed off and sends Butters on a quest to rescue Kenny. Tolkien finds and joins Tweek, because they made a promise to stick together way back at the start of the end of the world (Stan later tries to reason with him instead of Tweek directly).

(Craig actually needed to go to visit his grandma for a week and isn't that much into zombies anyway. When he returns a week later, he's proud to learn from the guys that Tweek can be fucking scary when he wants to. Apparently, he got so into the role that the boys had to check if everything is actually alright at several points. His theater kid soul yearns for the drama)

Butters is a mechanic. Aims for the tough biker aesthetic because of S13Ep12 and because he's a shameless Daryl Dixon fanboy.

Beats up Cartman at some point, to everyone's shock and amusement. Stays by his side in the end anyway

Jimmy is a leader of his own faction

The girls are also somewhat invested in the whole thing, but I haven't thought about specifics

i imagine bdubs has like some sort of recorded physical media from earth kinda like the dude in guardians of the galaxy with his cool human music. does bdubs have a collection of CDs?? is he a fan of 40's 50's jazzy band stuff? or did he wind up with the dvd singalong for mamma mia.

perhaps he has a graphic calculator with geometry dash on it and the first thing he did when he became a satellite hermit and had access to other devices was to make copies of the game onto the computers. this includes in the elytra thingies. like if you're parked or in standby.

he probably had to ask etho for help when he did it because something something corrupted files or it didn't transfer properly to the computers even when he fiddled with it

somehow etho does it in 2 minutes and bdubs tries really hard not to cry about it that night going to shreep

I imagine most of retro-futuristic sci-fi stuff being more physical rather than digital, especially if we consider all the difficulties of maintaining digital and wireless devices so far away from the civilization, but this is so funny :'D

I like this, especially the part of Etho taking 2 solid minutes to do something Bdubs hopelessly struggled with for days
