Taiko Log 12/1/11

a bit late but I've been busy. Again, not really that much happened. Hahaha the middies asked me if they were middies yet since tatsumaki is technically "performable" now. I answered "yeah...ok". Hahaha I wonder if it really meant much to them. I mean I'm pretty sure the other members recognized them as middies already. Then again it's not the first time people have tried hard to get my approval. For example, my lab partner and I always did this thing where she would do the final calculations to turn in while I would clean up supplies or finish whatever. At the end, she would always ask to me to check over her work. Only recently she told me something like "it's unnerving sometimes when I'm watching you check my work. And sometimes when we're doing the lab, you have these judging eyes when I'm doing stuff, pressuring me to do it right. And then when you finally say it's ok or you just don't do anything, I know I've done it okay. Kind of like a dad or something". I get to thinking if she feels that way, I wonder if the newbies and middies feel anything like that. She's not the first to say something similar to that either. Oh well, pressure is good for them. Kind of a policy not to pull my punches ever so meh.

Other than that, yeah nothing really big. I miss playing taiko more. Feel like I'm getting really rusty and I'm not as sharp anymore (with concerns to taiko). Just concentrating on studies for now. Once this quarter's done, it's taiko all the way.

Taiko Log 11/29

Core members had evals today. Nothing special happened with mine. Tried to fix up some tires today. Tried putting some card board under one of them so I guess we'll see how that works out. I guess I'll recognize the 2011 newbies as middies now. Hahaha, it feels like they're still little kids though. Oh well, they learned tatsumaki so that's good. Nothing to say about current newbies. Think a majority or all of them are still scared of me, but oh well. Short entry today, not much happened.

Actually..... when we went early to he barn theatre, the teacher of the Mexican dance class was smoking weed. God it smelled so bad in there. Cynthia and I actually decided to just go ahead and call campus police and as soon as the police came by, he bolted. The cop found it really amusing. I think he might really be the nicest cop I've ever met in my life. He might have thought "What the hell? These college kids actually called someone on smoking weed?" When we called them, the lady that answered the phone thought we were making assumptions. We opened the door, smelled all the weed, and saw him come out of the back room. Yeah... what assumptions? I mean the cop also smelled it so shit... Yeah that was probably the most exciting or weird thing that happened with taiko today. I don't want to get anybody fired, but I don't want him smoking his shit in the barn either. Don't shit where you eat man. Anyway, it was also funny when I picked up one of the escort phones that dialed University police. The lady asked what I was calling about and I literally told her "There's a guy smoking weed in the barn theater". There was a really long awkward silence for a while before she said anything. Hahahaha. Good times.

Taiko Log 11/14

Hopefully not the first and last log post. Why did I make this? Mostly just to keep track of what I'm doing and something to look back on. Possibly reference. So what happened today.

Tryoutees were doing their auditions. Not a lot of them showed up early to practice or anything. I remember in our generation, basically all of us were there even when we didn't need to be. Oh well, every gen is different. 

Practiced fue some more since I couldn't do all that much. Got better at hitting that higher octave. Just difficult on a cheap fue. Sounds really annoying too. Wish i had a more better quality fue so it wouldn't sound so much like a high pitch whistle all the time. More motivation to get a more professional fue. Haven't played odaiko lately and it makes me sad.

I ended up taping the ends of all the left over dowel bachi to stop them from splintering in the future, and gave them to the taiko class. God! Their splintered and shittily electric taped bachi pissed me off. They freakin leave black marks on the drum faces. The splinters scratch it too. Ugh. Yeah...some great taiko player and teacher R$# T*& is. Letting people hit the drum with shit like that. Threw away the really effed up ones and kept the others around. Might find some use for them some day down the road so why not. Also getting around to making an Equipment Manager's Log on our taiko forum. Working on how I want it organized and how suggestions/posts will go. Whatever. Experimenting.
