Tailgate Alaska Goes Off Through Our Lenses
// <![CDATA[ brightcove.createExperiences(); // ]]>
By Dave Grigsby
Tailgate Alaska is North America's largest backcountry ski and snowboard festival. Tailgate is a special event because it bridges the gap for over 500 of skiing and snowboarding's most passionate participants and the Holy Grail or our sport, The Chugach Mountains in Alaska. By bringing snow-safety and accommodations like Wi-Fi and porta johns to the top of Thompson Pass, the event makes once hard to access terrain possible and more cost effective for the average rider. The 10-day long event hosted skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers alike from all over the world and no doubt proved to provide a life experience that the attendees will never forget. The 7th-annual Tailgate Alaska met all expectations and proved to be the biggest and best event for us yet.
Each year brings a new set of weather and snow conditions that really dictate the flow of the event and this year was no different. This year we had 10 straight days of sunshine during the event. I don't think I saw one cloud for the entire span of the event and that made from some amazing times on the snow, but the constant sunshine can take a tole as well. I got the call two days before my travel to Alaska that the sun was shining and the guys that were already on the pass setting up for the event were in need. ZEAL came through for us huge and kept the entire staff seeing straight on our month long camp. Blessings from the TGAK crew!
And a parting shot from the guys at Robe Lake Lodge/Black Ops Valdez
Tailgate Alaska Definitely a destination
