taishaunavan is just a massive asshole convention. ... i think that needs better wording.

taishaunavan aren't necessarily mean, because mean is a bit cruel for what they are. van phrases harsh words under jokes, shauna usually mutters under her breath with a scoff, and... well, tai's mean. but with passion! I think they'd actually butt heads a lot, but.. not really? if they weren't dating, they'd be at eachother's throats, but the intimacy turns the arguments into discussion. I think this would be really emphasized with taishauna.

tai's heart is in the right place, but I think shaunavan would try to get her to tone down the aggression in it. taivan work as a megaphone for shauna, at least until she can say things with her whole chest. and taishauna don't really discourage van—tai swats her arm and shauna covers her laugh, but her rudeness is the most socially aware.

also: van having TWO genius girlfriends is funny. like, really funny. she goes to shauna's house? she's writing listening to weezer, or reading a book thicker than her arm. she goes to tai's? studying. practicing in her backyard. it's strangely impossible for her to find time to get laid.

OH BOY WOULD I

shauna and van are so interesting to me bc. there's so much there. and they haven't had a one-on-one scene together yet, but the absence is part of it all

like. okay. the first act that we witness on the ground in the wilderness is shauna attempting to save van, and she fails. van saves herself. and they never talk about it? jackie never apologizes (to van), and shauna never apologizes, and jackie avoids van so shauna avoids van

but then taissa is beside herself believing that she's killed van, and shauna tells her that no, it's not your fault. and that's where the majority of shauna and van's relationship exists: through taissa.

shauna talks to tai about van bringing tai to lottie's circle. van talks to tai about the baby's death, but not shauna. shauna bites van hard enough to leave a scar 25 years later, and they don't talk about it. 25 years later, shauna and tai talk about It. 25 years later, van doesn't ask tai about shauna

and i don't think that they dislike each other! (at least, not van.) i think that this is just the way that they've worked out, both because of pre-wilderness tendencies (tai and jackie not necessarily seeming to get along the past) and during-wilderness tendencies (shauna being a holdout skeptic, van being the most devout and also being such a simp she doesn't really spend time with anyone aside from tai). like, they both exist entirely in tai's orbit.

bc she's shauna i do think that there's a little bit of her that doesn't like van. like, i think that there's a dynamic there that could be explored, that van is to taissa who shauna thought she was to jackie, and resents her for being a spineless simp like shauna was/is and also for setting boundaries with tai and also for actually getting to smash her girlbestfriend and also tai has become shauna's bff and thus in part become jackie and thus van is an obstacle in shauna's aquirement of jackie taylor. no it doesn't make sense and yes the resentment exists in multitudes it's shauna shipman

(as an aside i do take into consideration van's limited screen time due to her being planned to die in season 1. like, in s1, almost all of her one-on-one scenes are with tai, with the one or two exceptions being with lottie, which is pretty similar to laura lee, who did die, and to my memory all of her one-on-one scenes were with lottie. but also in season 2 they only branched her out to a one-on-one with travis and all her others were with tai and maybe one with lottie? i think she's just a simp)
