The Electrum Artist Feature takes a closer look at the words and stories of the contributors to our anthology!
Artist Feature #19 is Tajliya Jamal. Tajliya is a queer, biracial artist and illustrator based in Vancouver, Canada. Her work is often illustrative, and plays with text and narrative sequence. Working primarily with identity politics as content, she explores the relationships and interactions she has experienced as a multiracial woman. More broadly, she looks into notions of visibility and invisibility -- how what we see visually does not always correspond to the complexities underneath.
Tajliya’s comic "Divided Skin" candidly reflects upon the pain many mixed people have experienced, of not being recognized by others as the child of your parent.
