giving vs taking; and the beautiful combination when balanced
GIVING. What does it mean to give? I am not talking about giving something that is tangible, I am talking about giving help, giving a shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen- a hand up off the ground. Giving is such an incredible part of life, and I believe absolutely everyone should give. However, don't give away every little piece of you, you won't have anything left for yourself. This is my predicament. I give my energy, I give my emotion, I give my shoulder to cry on, I give my hand to hold, I give my brain for advice, and at the end of the day none of these people I've given to have given anything to me. There is a healthy cycle to giving, and that is to reciprocate...to receive. Surrounding yourself with people who are interested in how YOU are doing, in what YOU are doing, and people that are willing to invest time into a relationship, these are people where you can give and receive and not feel completely drained out of your mind. I hate to complain, boo hoo I am not receiving what I give out into the world. My life is so beautiful and I have nothing to complain about. Yet, I have made some observations which make me reconsider some of the relationships in my life that seem very one-sided. Now, it is just time to find those people who will give to me just as much as I give to them instead of take-take-take. It makes a person much more apt to continue to give if they know how appreciated they are. I would love nothing more than to find a relationship with balance in this give/take madness, we are people, we are ALL just people...
